Most annoying Christmas food
For me, it's gotta be those awful, plastic-looking fruitcakes you buy in supermarkets. Even if I wasn't allergic to candied fruit, I wouldn't eat them.

Re: Most Annoying Christmas Food
I'm thinking that fruitcake will win this thread, hands down. I want to know who eats them, and what sort of witchery keeps them *good* for years on end?

Re: Most Annoying Christmas Food
I made my own one year and it was pretty good. I used nuts and dried fruit. It disappeared pretty quickly. Maybe this year I'll make two.

Re: Most Annoying Christmas Food
I didn't know people could make them. I thought they were mass produced in some secret, hellish factory, and dropped by air onto unsuspecting innocents everywhere.

Re: Most Annoying Christmas Food
^^Unfortunately, yes, anyone can make them. And boy do they!
They make for a good hammer if you ever need one in a hurry, so it's not all bad. Nailing the wreathes up, the stockings, etc. And you never know when you might need a (fruitcake) brick to throw through some kids window that threw a snowball at you earlier in the day (right Moomies?)!

Re: Most Annoying Christmas Food
I LOVE fruitcake--no, really, I'm not kidding. I order it from a bakery in Texas and it is to die for! Most annoying: mincemeat pie. What the heck is in there anyway?

Hahhaha---cute cartoon Paris! And apparently fitting because I was gonna say fruitcake too. And yes, mincemeat pie scares me as well.

Re: Most Annoying Christmas Food
I really like mincemeat, but only the vegetarian kind without that nasty suet.
I make mincemeat tarts every year. It's a family tradition. Crosse & Blackwell is the best, but it's non-veggie.
I also like plum pudding if it's made with lots of brandy.

Re: Most Annoying Christmas Food
I make an icecream version of the fruitcake - mix dried/candied fruit and nuts of choice plus a slug of brandy in semi-melted vanilla icecream and re-freeze.
Nuts in their shells. Why? We eat them without shells the rest of the year.

Oh good lord I forgot all about that too! My mom used to make it at holiday time and light that shit on fire. Used to hope it would burn the place to the ground, in the hope that she would never make it again. EECCKKK!
