Vegemite=congealed soy sauce. I've cooked with it but only to use up the jar because I sure wasn't going to just eat it. (Not a masochist)

I've never had vegemite, but I do have two jars of marmite in the pantry. I use it mostly as a seasoning for soups, stew, and gravy.

The trick is with vegemite you have to have the right butter/vegemite ratio on the bread. Very important.

So true, got to go easy on the vegemite, no spreading it thick like it's peanut butter or nutella if you haven't had it before.

God, now I want some toast. These threads have a way of giving me the munchies

I tried it once... and I thought it tasted like, err, beer vomit. I could barely get it down. But I suspect it may be one of those things that I could appreciate now. And I'm not just saying that! I would like to try it again.
