I got my 1st bout with food poisoning ever just a couple of months ago from an apple. I rinsed it, but obviously not well enough. Lesson learned.
Suffice to say you do not want to know the gory details.

Luckily the eggs here don't usually have salmonella, but you never know. I eat at least two eggs a day for breakfast and I leave the wgg yolks raw, so I should maybe be careful in a another country.

When I worked in a restaurant I remember how much the health inspectors would check the scallions due to the risk of Hep. A.

I'm eating an egg now, boiled. Yum.

The cool thing about all these unclean foods is that I can wash and cook them.

Didn't know about scallions, though. And lots of restaurants use scallions, massive heaps of scallions.

Another very dirty food is alfalfa or bean sprouts. Just like scallions, they're really hard to wash, and so salmonella often clings to them.

I've always heard that bar peanuts and lemon wedges for your drink are the dirtiest things you can get.

I got food poisoning from eating leftover macaroni and cheese that had apparently gone bad while at a friend's house a couple of years ago. We ate it the day before my birthday, and I woke up at 2 am on the morning of my birthday vomiting all over the place.

I was already wary of eating leftovers when this happened, and really only did so because that's what my friend served for dinner and I didn't want to be rude, but now I absolutely refuse to eat them.

Lettuce is filthy. I don't put salad dressing on mine & can tell you exactly which restaurants skimp on washing. Faint dust taste! At home I always soak with salt water(use popcorn salt-extremely fine) then rinse until squeaky clean. No,this is not paranoria. One of mothers friends got ameobia inflamed intestines from unwashed lettuce. Took for ever to clear up!

I got food poisoning from scallops. They used to be one of my favorite things, now I can't touch them.

    Honey, you're awesome.

I love eggs, and I never think to wash them...must do that from now on, this is all a bit scary!

If I didn't have to use eggs, I wouldn't. I am allergic to them on their own, they always make me sick. I use them in so many recipes though.

And I agree w/you all about the prepackaged salads...WTH! They STINK. I always wash all veggies twice.
