Default Consumer survey: McDonald's coffee better than Starbucks!

McDonalds creams Starbucks in Coffee survey - North America - World - Breaking News - Belfast Telegraph

    Friday, February 02, 2007
Consumer testers in the US have declared coffee from McDonald's better than the brew at Starbucks.

The burger chain's Premium Roast was chosen as the tastiest by Consumer Reports magazine.

It also beat the offerings at Burger King and Dunkin' Donuts.

The trained sippers found the $1.55 Starbucks coffee ``strong, but burnt and bitter'', according to the New York Post.

But the cheaper McDonald's caffeine fix, costing $1.35 was ``decent and moderately strong''.

``Although it lacked the subtle top notes needed to make it rise and shine, it had no flaws,'' the magazine said.

Burger King got a roasting for a drink that ``looked like coffee but tasted more like hot water'', while the beverage at Dunkin' Donuts was ``inoffensive, but it had no oomph''.

They must not have tried the Burger King "Turbo" coffee. That would put hair on any chest..

I agree that Starbucks coffee is bad and overpriced, but people always say in these kinds of polls that McDonald's has the best fries, for example, and they don't, by a long shot. Not even in the fast food context. Most of these polls go for the lowest common denominator, IMO.

That proves my point one more time.

In Vancouver, which is a big foodie town, the local entertainment giveaway does a big "best of" series at the end of every year and McDoanlds is always rated way above all kinds of great Belgian fries and poutine places. Boggles the mind. They get the most votes, because the most people must eat there, and don't know how good the fries are elsewhere.

Yeah but that's different. I think this survey is comparing all the fast food chains, not an open ballot.

Starbucks burns their beans when they roast to cover flaws--but thing is I'd assume McDonald's would too.

I know that a lot of people really like McDonald's coffee especially since they switched to Newman's Own coffee but my mom always commented on how good their coffee is (way back when and now).

I myself am not a coffee drinker at all so I really don't know anything about it but I do know quite a bit about coffee and fair trade!!

There is McNasty corporate office in Burnaby I think? They serve Starbucks coffee there and other items not on their regular menu.

I'm not a coffee drinker so I don't know poop.

I love Starbucks coffee compared to all of the local chains. There are a couple of local pastry places that have better coffee, but to me I think Starbucks is great. I've been drinking coffee for 30 of my 37 years, so it's just a matter of taste. Now, McDonalds fries are good as far as fast food...but only if they are fresh..just fried. My favorite fries are from a place in Maryland where I grew up. It's called Thrashers. They cook them in peanut oil.

I tried McDonald's coffee for the first time last summer. I thought it was fabulous. It tasted better than Starbuck's and Tim Horton's. I always get my coffee at McDonald's now.
