    Default Favourite wines and why

Share your favourites with the board.

I love New Zealand's Marlborough Monkey Bay Sauvignon Blanc at the moment, among many others.

    This is way to hard.

Of course I am spoilt because I live in Australia!!

Anyway. The best of my put down bottles is my 1998 Penfolds Grange.

As to drinking. Im a big fan of a Mudgee vineyard called 'Abercorn' their Shiraz Cabernet 2001 is beautiful.

Probably not available outside of Oz though.

Its funny that stuff like Yellow Tail sells so well in the US. Its sounds snobby, but it is true, Its pig swill compared to what we are used to.

We really are spoilt for Wine here.

I like Jackaroo Big Red wine. Bought it at Trader Joes, the name made me laugh. Surprisingly, a great cheap red wine that goes great with food.

I like Little Penguin for inexpensive wine. The Shiraz and Merlot are both good.

I love Conundrum. It's a sweeter white wine, but sort of expensive. It's a California wine if I recall

I also love Puerta Vallerja, a nice merlot. Not too dry, which I detest.

We have lots of companies like that. They label it and name it to appeal to the market over there. No way would they call it that here.

I liked Gwerztraminer it was sweet n fruity.

I really don't know much about wines so when I feel like buying a bottle, I usually go by how pretty the bottle looks and the price.

If you think it's crazy, you ain't seen a thing. Just wait until we're goin down in flames.

I dont know much about wines, and I dont favour any particlar label.

However I do love a really robust Aussie Red. I cant stand sweet wines, they make me feel ill, so give me a glass of a really good red and I'll be happy. Actually I have this thing now where I'll go to the store and buy the clean skin red's, so I really never know what I'm drinking. heh.

A good thing to do is ask the people at the wine store what they recommend. Often they will ask you for a price range and don't be shy about going low or high. LOTS of people who work in wine stores appreciate a good bottle for a reasonable price, and I've gotten to drink some great wine that has joined my list of favourites that way.

You might have to go into a fancier wine store than your average liquor store, but I've even had great advice from people at those places. Plus, reading mags and papers with wine columns is another way to find some good picks.

Current favourite is Prosecco, but I also like sauvignon blanc, chablis or pouilly fumee/fusee if I'm feeling flush. Also like Italian wines, but they are notorious for only exporting crap. Not keen on chardonnay at all, and a lot of the New World wines are too big and brassy for me.

I sometimes buy wines just for their creative labels. I went to art school and one of our assignments was to design a wine label, loved that!
Anyway, I have tried some funny wines, "Fat Bastard" comes to mind. I also have a collection of wines because of their labels creativity. I like "Luna di Luna" obviously for the name, the labels pretty and oh yeah, it tastes pretty good too.
