Default Juicing is a great way to eat healthy and shed pounds

We started juicing in our household last summer and I've noticed that not only do I feel better, I've lost some weight.

My hubby makes organic fruit and vegetable juice every week. It's a hassle, but it is really worth it. It tastes so much better and justs feels healthy going down.

I was against buying a decent juicer at first because I thought it would be a novelty that would sit in the cupboard after a week or so, but we've actually used it. It's messy tho.

They say that juices (with no sugar added) are very healthy, but the whole fruit is better because juicing destroys fibers.
And the juice's glycemic index is way higher than the fruit's.

Sorry PacificBreeze, this wasn't really a comment on your post, I just said what your post made me think about!

What is juicing? Putting fruit in a blender? I just bought my first blender, and I'm so excited! I haven't used it yet, though. We still have a Food & Recipes section right? Anybody know off-hand if there are any recipes for juicing there? I'm too lazy to search at the moment...

It's a pain - I LOVE fruit but if you are watching carbs/sugar (fructose) like I am at the moment there's little chance to enjoy it.

A*O I suggest you don't cut carbs off completely, go for apples or grapefruits, they're both so healthy.

I confess, I do eat apples - at least they are low GI. But this country has an abundance of pineapples, mangos, melon, bananas, papaya, the list goes on. Torture!

^^ Meh. Eat what you want in moderation and get regular exercise. No need to cut out good, fresh fruits and vegetables, folks! The key is: MODERATION. You only live once, so enjoy life and all that it has to offer, pineapples especially!!

I noticed that the fruit juice is sweeter, too. But veggie juice is a handy way to get a lot of vegetables that I wouldn't eat every day.

I don't think juice or vitamins are substitutes for healthy eating, but they certainly don't hurt. It's not watery if you stir/shake it before you drink it. Fresh juice has a tendency to separate but nothing that a stir with a spoon can't fix.

there is absolutely no reason to ever cut fruits out of your diet, nobody gets enough in the first place, and the type of sugars found in fruits have no detrimental effects on your body or metabolism, you burn that type of low calorie sugar right away in fact and the fiber found in fruit is beyond good for you; its superb.

well true and not true. sugar is sugar, and we've modified (by selecting the sweetest) fruits to contain more fructose, which is the same stuff they add into drinks.

I agree. I love carrot juice, and I rarely if ever eat carrots on their own. I also try and use those recipes they give you. I love the one with celery, apple and ginger.
