Default So I ate one of those Popeyes chicken sandwiches....

Nobody in the family had tried one yet because the local Popeyes (which is almost within walking distance) was always either too crowded or sold out. Also, you could get stabbed (yes, that happened in my state).

Anyway, last night Mrs Mo took the kids out to try them out and they brought one back for me.

At this point, no sandwich could live up to the hype this one was getting. However, the thing WAS massive. Bigger than a Big Mag, and the only thing between the buns seemed like half an entire chicken breast, deep fried until it had an inch of deep-fried batter surrounding it as an exoskeleton. About 1/2 inch of chicken went outside the buns on all sides. The bun is supposed to be brioche, and I think it is, but putting the sandwich inside a foil pouch for takeout (which is how I had mine) kind of defeats the purpose of the brioche. when I opened the pouch the brioche was kind of soft and shrunken, like George Costanza, while he was changing out of his swim trunks. The taste was good. It was incredibly filling. The prices was good, too -- $4.

In summary - an unremarkable dining experience, but I wasn't stabbed, so there's that.

    Glad you weren't stabbed, Mo!

I love Popeye's! I grew up in and around bayou on the Texas/Louisiana border, so the spicy, cajun thing is normal to me.

Their biscuits are THE BEST! Also, the red beans and rice are a must-have.

(Now, I want Popeye's for lunch.)

See, I get turned off when the chicken breast is massive.
    1) That ain't right, poor chicken was on steroids.
    2) I think they don't taste that good when it's such a huge piece of chicken. And the subsequent extra thick batter to boot. Just make a good normal sized chicken sandwich, damn.

I prefer Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich.

Maybe the chicken just had naturally large breasts....

Yes, it's been a while but I loved their mashed potatoes and gravy. But then, I pretty much love ANY mashed potatoes and gravy.

Like beeyotch, I’m turned off by giant chicken breasts and I’m not a huge fan of fried chicken so not interested in this but I do love they they’re giving the gay hating chicken place a run for its money.

Fried chicken is my weakness!! My mom still makes it for my birthday dinner! I love Popeyes. I had this sandwich (in Maryland, mo) over the summer. Before I knew of the hype. I have to say, it’s yummy. My mom got one and it was huge. I had about half of her sandwich.
