Default How do you set your table?

I love to set the table. One thing that Grandma told me was to never put containers on the table. Always transfer into pitchers, butter dishes etc.

I'd love to hear about traditional table settings in your country. Do you put the tines of the fork down? Place bread directly on the table or in a basket? I'd love to hear about Asian table settings as I'm not familiar with them.

These are things that I don't have but would love to have.

An Egg cozy!

Double soft boiled egg holder.

I do have a toast holder. I use it for mail and bills.

English Biscuit Holder

A Grape Holder with Scissors - so civilized

This is an asparagus holder. Did the English make a dish for everything?

If the English don't make it, the French definitely do.

I am only now getting into the habit of transferring items to proper serving dishes. Growing up, aside from Christmas, etc., it was all cookpots on the table. Way less washing up, though!

OT, maybe but my parents were super strict about manners, proper utensil handling, etc. But definitely no butter dish on the table!

Then what do you put your butter in? I have one of those neat French water butter containers - it's a gorgeous piece of pottery and I think it looks good on my table.
