    Default Wedding Cake Styles 1916 - 2016

2016's cake looks like a pre-school project gone wrong.

I like the very first one. I guess that was before wedding receptions were guest were 250+. I am going to a wedding next month that has almost 300 people going. Can't wait to see the cake for that one although it's rumored that it will be one mini two tier cake with the guest to eat cupcakes.

I think the worst are the 1976, 1986 and 2016. I kinda like the first one, the 1956 one because it's so quintessentially perfect wedding kitsch and the 1996 one.

I want cake too, and to get my hands on my mother's album from her first wedding so I can see what the cake was like. I'll have to give her a call over the weekend to see if she still has it.

I think the 1986 cake was around a lot longer than that. It looks like my parents' cake from 1974.

I think the Jolie-Pitt kids made 2016's cake.

I sent this to my bff who has been doing cakes for 30 years. She got married at 21 in 1992, she and her mom and aunt did her own cake, which looked a lot like the '86 one but with teal and peach! Yep, we laugh about it now.

I like the 20s-30s cakes. and the '96 one.

Interesting how all the cakes sort of look representative of the decade they came from until you get to the ones from the last 20 years. The ones from 1996 on look generic and I probably couldn't peg them into any particular decade. And has anyone gone to many weddings with a wedding cake even somewhat similar to the 2016 one?

    1956 is my favorite.
I went to a wedding when I was a kid with the 1986 like cake, it was like 1996 though :/ I remember thinking it was dumb even as a kid.
2016 makes me think if my 2 year old could just stop putting everything in his mouth he could be a cake decorator.

My parents had the exact same topper as the 1956 one. They got married in 68, but it was in the South, so I'm sure they were just behind the times.

My folks started "going steady" in junior high school and got married in college. They got engaged and the wedding was three weeks later. I'm sure a lot of tongues were wagging about them having to get married, but I didn't come along for another 9 years. My great aunt Kizzie handmade 5 bridesmaid dresses in three weeks. Unreal.

My wedding cake was pretty much like the 1986 one, but peach colored, lol! I got married in 1995, though. I don't think the 2016 one is truly representative of a current popular style, IMO. I follow Ron Ben Israel on Instagram, and his cakes are gorgeous and look nothing like the "2016" cake...

My fav is 1996 and I agree the 2016 is a joke.
