    Default Favorite Cooking Shows

Wasn't sure whether to here on the TV section.

I pretty much love any cooking show on any channel; one of my favorite channels is Create TV (public television), and love watching Lidia's Italy, Pati's Mexican Kitchen, etc. I also love most all Food Network shows, my current favorite is The Kitchen on Saturday mornings. There are a couple of shows, though, that even though I watch, I've never had any interest in their recipes: America's Test Kitchen and it's sister show, Cook's Country. Their recipes are so convoluted and time consuming, IMO, and it annoys me when they take an authentic recipe and change it to their taste. For example, this morning they were making a traditional Japanese stir fry noodles and steak dish, but decided "they" preferred to use Napa cabbage rather than regular cabbage like the recipe called for, and lo mein noodles instead of what was normally used in the recipe. I'm sure it tasted good, but I'm not sure you can still call it authentic or traditional...

I love Chopped. It's my favorite. All the New Scandinavian Cooking shows on PBS. The chefs are in Norway, Iceland and Sweden and cook outside no matter how bad the weather is. They are hard core outdoorsy types.

These days, I get a boner for anything with Nigella Lawson in it. I've made a few of her recipes and liked them all.

Definitely love the competition shows; Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen, Cake Wars, Cupcake Wars, etc. A new fav is Cooks vs. Cons.

I didn't know pioneer woman had a show. I've been on her website for years, ever since noday said something about her.

I don't like anything too "cheffy" so Nigella is pretty good. I also loved Rick Stein's "Venice to Istanbul" show (plus the book of course). I've tried most of the recipes and they're all winners. I cannot stand the cooking competition shows which are now so obviously scripted and fake.

Does "Extra Virgin" with Debi Mazar still come on? Interesting food, but she comes across as really obnoxious sometimes.

I'm a big fan of Ina, Ciao Italia (with Mary Ann Esposito), and Lidia Bastianich. Mostly because they cook things I like to eat.

I used to religiously watch Jacques Pepin.
