Question How do you defrost meat

I just throw it in the sink and let it naturally thaw cause putting hot water over it is a waste of water and zapping it in the microwave always makes it defrost uneven and cook partially.

    -am i totally unsanitary?
    -whats the best way?

The best way is to thaw it in the fridge. Thawing it on the counter or in the sink runs the risk of bacteria developing. I've used the hot water thaw a few times, but if you're in that much of a rush, use the defrost feature on your microwave.

I usually throw the frozen meat in a pot of cold water big enough to (mostly) cover it and leave it on the counter.

^^The cold water method works, as long as the water stays cold. It should be changed every 30 minutes or so, depending on the temperature outside.

I usually defrost in the fridge unless I know for sure that I'll be using the meat soon then I leave it out on the kitchen counter. Also depending on what I'm cooking, I sometimes cook frozen stuff and let it defrost in the pan/pot with heat.

If you think it's crazy, you ain't seen a thing. Just wait until we're goin down in flames.

This is exactly how I thaw, either throw it in the fridge the night or morning before use, and if I'm in a hurry, I'll defrost in the microwave.

For counter thawing, place meat inside of a teflon plan, it will defrost faster because teflon distributes temperature evenly. This can be demonstrated by placing an icecube in a teflon pan and placing one on the countertop. The one in the teflon pan starts melting immediately!

I learn something new every damned day! Who knew? I'm pulling out my teflon tonight and thawing something out, just to see how it does.

If there's enough time, in the fridge. If not, the microwave.

I have always known the right way but if I still toss it in the sink sometimes! I hate how microwave defrosting cooks the chicken partially.
