Gross foods from the 50's and 60's
A while ago when this board was first started, I was a member, and someone had posted a great website, that had recipes and pictures from 1950's and 1960's cookbooks. The food was so amazingly gross, like gelled ham and such.
Does anyone have the url? Thanks!

Do you mean "Gallery of Regrettable Food?"
This covers really bizarre meals/food from the 1930-60s.
For example:

From the otherwise inoffensive Knox book of Gel Cookery. It looks . . . solid, but not necessarily appetizing. Cold gelatin w/ peas . . . no. No, thank you. Especially when the cold firm mold is the color of a cold, firm cadaver.

Re: Gross foods from the 50's and 60's
Is that back when stuff like potted meat and vienna sausages in the can (swimming in that gross looking tea-colored *jelly*) became popular?

It's also when people found 'excitement' in the aluminumm TV dinner trays and held 'all pink food' parties. (i'm serious)
Just because they could.

Aspic should be a dirty word banned from all polite conversation.

Re: Gross foods from the 50's and 60's
oh lordie, my mother always makes aspic when my grandmother comes over. it is horrendous and since my brother and i were children we'd always laugh about the ASS-pick as it looked so vile/probably tastes worse. my mom isn't even 60 yet...i don't know why she feels the need to make this awful food.

Oh yes. Jello anything is nasty *shudders.* I think it might have been Grimm who posted the pics from the past. I have a couple of cookbooks from that era with some hideous coloured (and tasting) food. Anybody remember pupu platters?

I believe you were referring to this: http://www.candyboots.com/wwcards.html
"Yes, let's have these in brandy snifters. Let's just tip our heads back and let the chunks slide in."
