    Default Bison Burgers!

I went to Loblaws (big supermarket chain) and they had bison burgers!!! About 6 bucks for 4 which is expensive, but I don't eat much meat anyawys and it's only me eating them...

I took a look online, and it looks like they have about 30% less fat, and almost half the cholestral of other meats! It's about equal to seafood actually

They're still sitting in my fridge Anyone ever had bison before? How did you like it? Do you prefer it to beef?

My dad has tried them before and said they were very good. I've never tried it myself though.

I buy ground bison for my family and we eat them as a nice "treat" and break from the usual ground beef. The one I buy comes in a 1-lb. package. The initial reason I began using bison is because, like domestic lamb, it is not terribly commercialised or in high-demand, so it's less likely to be over-produced and injected with all the *wonderful* steroids and antibiotics you find in most meat.

Now I just buy it 'cause I like it.

I have to say bison is DELICIOUS! *slurp* There is a distinctive flavour, though. I wouldn't say "gamey" (like venison, ostrich, other exotic meat) and no, it doesn't "taste like chicken" lol - it just has more body, texture and better flavour.

If you're still feeling apprehensive, I suggest that you first use them in tacos, chili, meatloaf or stew - there are recipes online - then you probably won't taste the difference so much.

^^^ AWESOME!!! Yes, it's true that it's "beefier" than beef. lol

When you are "of age," you will also find that it goes ever so nicely with a glass of mmmerlot or red (not white/blush, god forbid) zinfandel.

It tastes a lot like beef, imo.

I remember one Christmas when I was a teenager my dad brought home a roast from the butcher shop [wrapped in brown paper, no label] to have for Christmas dinner. I cooked it thinking it was a beef roast. After dinner, he told me what it was ...

If he hadn't said anything, I would have just thought it was beef.

I buy local fresh bison instead of hamburger here all the time. The only thing you really have to remember cooking it is that because it is very low fat it tends to just not want to stick together in burgers or meatloaf. You have to add some moisture and binder (like breadcrumbs) for those things. To cook loose you sometimes have to add a little olive oil.

I feed my cats raw bison, vension, buffalo and elk. They love it.

I like bison and moose. Not so crazy about buffalo or venison.
