Otherwise, you're better off with the soup-and-salad combo below.

    Holy sh*t - PF Chang's hot and sour soup has more than two day's allowance of sodium. I bet you get hot flashes when you finish the thing. They should chop the fingers off of whoever created that recipe.

    And, in my experience, most people don't think of soup as a meal, just as a side dish or appetizer... so adding even more fat and sodium and calories on top of this shit is even worse.

    mmmm..lobster bisque.

    I think most people should know that heavy creamy soups and chowders, stuff loaded with cheese, swimming in a pool of visible fat, etc. is not exactly diet food.

    Just use common sense.

    My in-laws still make it that way, Sojita. It's a guilty pleasure, though.

    About half of what I eat is some kind of soup - split pea, black bean, great northern bean, lentil, etc. I usually add carrots, onions, low-fat ham, etc. Almost no salt. Very healthy.

    An upscale resort I used to work at would donate a batch of their tomato bisque to a local cancer patient, because it was the thing he ate to gain weight quickly. It was straight cream, butter, and roasted tomatoes, basically. I've thought twice about anything I order out since working there...

    I haven't bought canned/ready-made soup in years. Soup is so easy to make at home and it's a great way to use up leftovers.

    in winter i'll make about a soup a week, in a big pot. and have that during the week for lunch or when i don't feel like cooking.
    last night i made a butternut squash, zucchini, potato and leek soup, with a bit of turmeric, cumin and a hint of dried ginger. all natural ingredients, not a lot of salt, healthy and yummy.
    i hate going to restaurants and ordering soups and getting salty crap that tastes like knorr bouillon cube concentrate.
    and cheese soup is just wrong. i can understand putting a bit of parmesan on top of a bowl of tomato soup or something but melted cheese soup? yuck.

    I'm addicted to cream-based soups. One of my downfalls, actually. Cream of anything and NE clam chowder. I like bisques too. My supermarket sells homemade soup and at least twice a week I get a large container. Nothing with too many starches in it, but they make a seafood chowder that is out of this world.

    My kids love tomato bisque - love it. Especially, Panera's version. Apparently, the school serves it in the cafeteria, too. I didn't realize it could be so fatty.

    You have to be careful with French Onion Soup depending on what's put in it. Some places load it with sodium.

    I make lentil and black bean soups as part of my diet/lifestyle change, especially during the winter. I can make a delicious White Bean/Spinach/Smoked Turkey soup too.

    Me too! Back in college there was one right across from my work so almost every day I ate one of their soups for lunch...I really loved the corn and green chile one too!

    Speaking of cheese soup, I was watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives one time and he had this cheeseburger soup...complete with lettuce, tomato, and onion!
