    Default Need Party Ideas--70th Birthday

We'd like to have a party for my father-in-law's 70th birthday.

The challenge: key family members are vegetarian or don't eat meat (maybe some salmon or tuna)

We're not sure as to the location, i.e., home vs. restaurant, but the family seems to be inclined toward a home-based celebration.

Does anyone have any good ideas? Thanks so much!

What am I doing in this handbasket?

How about a taco/fajita bar? Offer ground beef taco filling and/or grilled chicken and beef strips for the omnivores, taco seasoned spicy black beans and rice filling for the vegetarians, and grilled veggies (peppers, zucchini, etc). refried beans, tomatoes, avocados, shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, sour cream, and fresh salsa or pico de gallo for everyone.

Some kind of buffet with meat/fish/veggie options seems the most obvious solution so people can help themselves to what they prefer. It also means a lot less work for the host (you?) because most of it can be prepared in advance and heated up as required or served cold anyway.

If you know someone with tekky skilz and have a load of family photos then ask them to make a PC slideshow. I recently went to a party where they did this and it was a really nice touch that prompted a lot of happy memories for everyone there. Each person at the party appeared in at least one photo so it was fun trying to spot ourselves!

You could easily go Italian and skip out on the meat. Just go with pasta or ricotta/veggie lasagne, big salads, veggies, garlic bread etc.

Make sure you have a theme or color scheme. You could have everyone come dressed in the colors.
