Lots of things you would never expect contain animal products.
I had no idea that frosted Poptarts contained beef products!

Mar 24, USA (HPI) Kellog's breakfast cereal adulterated with beef products.
The following information comes from the Kellog's website, where information reveals that several of the popular snack products that appear to be vegetarian are actually not.
Gelatin is used to help the texture of the product and is derived from either beef or pork. Kellogg's (R) Frosted Mini-Wheats (R) and Kellogg's (R) Rice Krispies Treats (R) cereals contain type B gelatin, which is derived from beef.
Whenever marshmallow ingredients are present in a Kellogg's (R)cereal brand, the marshmallow contains type A gelatin, which is derived from pork. Kellogg's (R) Krave (TM) Snack Bars also contain type A gelatin derived from pork sources.
Type B gelatin is derived from beef sources and is found in the frosting of all varieties of Kellogg's (R) Frosted Pop-Tarts (R), Kellogg's (R) Frosted Pop-Tarts (R) Snak-Stix (TM), all varieties of Kellogg's (R) Pop-Tarts (R) Pastry Swirls, and Kellogg's (R) Nutri-Grain (R) Minis with Yogurt Icing.
Plain (unfrosted) Kellogg's (R) Pop-Tarts (R) do not contain gelatin. None of the equipment that comes in contact with the gelatin in Kellogg's (R) Frosted Pop-Tarts (R) is used in the production of the other pastries.
Kellogg's (R) Rice Krispies Treats (R) Squares contain type A gelatin in the marshmallow, which is derived from pork sources.
In addition to the above information from the Kellog's site, a great deal of information on adulterated foodstuffs can be found in the Prasadam Ingredients section of HareKrsna.com, which details the many food additives hidden by nondescript names, specific products like Rice Krispies that are contaminated with animal products, and other types of adulterated foodstuffs that are to be avoided.

Of course they wouldnt put that out in plain view, guess this is the end me having anything to do with Kellog's.
Im ashamed to say what I did for a klondike bar...
Thank you for posting this. I am a vegetarian and had NO idea about the frosted pop tarts! YUCK! Why can't food simply be what it is supposed to be without all the frankenstein additives!!!
^^ yup like chicken feathers in pretzels *nods*. I remember looking at the indredient list on the back of a pack once, not recognising what something was, calling them and finding that out. Made me reasses everything I ate so fast it wasnt funny.
Meat in pop-tarts. I am flabbergasted.

The only proper use for Pop Tarts is to create four foot tall flames in a jammed toaster.
Not that I'm encouraging arson.

MonkeyMix, I was about to call you Debbie Downer until you gave the no-meat Ok to Little Debbies & Entenmann's.

I know. I just feel guilty because I have a bad diet, and I know it. I've got to make some changes, but it's hard to know where to start.
ETA: Dang, I can't seem to stop pissing people off today, despite my intentions! Maybe I should be done for the day. : )

Honestly, the best place to look to make sure you are getting no meat is for a kosher symbol. Jews have strict dietary rules (if they follow kosher), so there are markings on the food labels if it is kosher and what kind of kosher it is. Kosher milkik means it is a dairy product, I don't know the name for meat, but neither milk nor meat is called Kosher Pareve, so I think meat is just the circled K symbol. Jews cannot mix milk with meat so it is important that foods are marked that way.
Also for the non-veggies, the best quality hotdogs you will find are kosher hotdogs. They aren't made with pork product, but you also won't get wonderful things like rat hair mixed in.
I pretty much go by the rule of, I dont eat it unless I've made it myself. Ever since I found out pretzels have chicken feathers in them I just dont trust thoes prepackaged stuff. That and I just do not want to know anymore, it sickens me too much.
Whew, that's a relief! I thought I was setting a record today. All's good.Originally Posted by MonkeyMix
