Default Krispy Kreme Goes Broke In Australia

The same thing happened with Starbucks There is hope for our civilization after all.

    D'ough! Krispy Kreme going bust

    .
The Iced Dough Vo, a tribute to the famed Iced VoVo and part of a so-called 'Fair Dinkum' range of Krispy Kreme offerings that were designed to lure Australians. The attempt appears to have failed.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts is going into voluntary administration because of poor sales.

The Australian arm of the US company was placed in the hands of accountancy firm Smith Hancock on Friday, it has been reported.

Krispy Kreme has 50 stores across Australia, employing 660 staff.

Company spokesman Matt Horan says it's not yet known how many employees will be made redundant or if any stores will be closed.

"In the event that there are redundancies arising out of the voluntary administration process, all employee entitlements have been protected," Mr Horan told News Limited.

"Several factors, including location, sales declines, high rents and high distribution costs, have meant that a number of stores are losing money," he said.

The Starbucks that they had is Australia tasted like ass. American friends of mine said it's completely different coffee in the USA and it's fantastic there.

Krispy Kreme stopped baking the donuts fresh on site to save money so the (expensive!) donuts sat there all day and tasted like cold, stale sugar dough...yuck. IMO they're overated anyway.

    Mmmmmmmmmmmmm... Krispy Kremes.

Yeah, I don't care for the Starbucks coffee they sell here in the States. Too acidic for me.

We didn't need KKs or Starbucks. It's as simple as that.

The coffee in Oz was already great - all those Italian migrants in the 1950s and 60s opened cafes with proper Gaggia espresso machines and they are still going strong (literally). Aussies drink a lot of coffee but we're picky because we know what the good stuff should taste like. Who needs overpriced hot foam and water in a styrofoam cup?

As for Krispy Kreme, I suspect they are WAY too sweet for our discerning palates I've only eaten one once and the sugar content made my teeth hurt. Also, even a one-horse country town here usually has a family-run bakery where you can buy bread fresh from the oven and other fantastic pastries including home-made donuts.

Don't diss the Vegemite. It's the nectar of champions (pure vitamin B).

Ever since they opened I thought that KK should have kept stores in Australia to a minimum. People used to travel to the Penrith/Sydney store from all over (I read about people driving up from Melbourne just to get KK), taking them on planes to their friends in other states etc. The line was often curling outside the store.

Then they started opening up outlets in shopping malls & that's when the uniqueness died. Who wants something you can get everywhere?

What a shame /end sarcasm. Totally overrated. They always left a greasy aftertaste in your mouth. Good concept, but I've tasted far better elsewhere.

I can't stand them. There is sweet and there is lethal. Those thing set my teeth on edge.

Meh, I'm not big on KK anyway. I wouldn't miss them if they folded.

I love KK, but think they went a bit overboard. I do love them hot, but I haven't had one in a couple of years.

Baskin Robins has just gone down the gurgler too. I think Aussie consumers are sending a message here....
