Talking Where have all the Fruitcakes gone?

Where the heck are all of the Xmas fruitcakes? I have hardly seen any out when shopping. They used to be a staple. Are they really dying out? My boss actually asked me if I knew where he could get a fruitcake cause someone wanted one. I had to say I had not seen any. I looked this morning for them and at two different places did not see any.

It used to be you could not swing a stick and not hit a fruitcake at Christmas time. What's up now?

*this post was supposed to have a poll but the stupid board screwed it up..what is up with the board today messing things up-I got thrown off earlier today and now this? *pissed*

Saw some yesterday in CVS Drugs, in the "let's get rid of this shit quick" section. They more resembled doorstops or bricks than fruitcakes. Want me to send you one/some?

I will tell him to check out CVS then. I rarely go into one of them.

I actually do not mind them, even the brick ones. I just gnaw on them when I am in a- bored/watching TV/broke/nothing else to eat but stuff equally bad/off work/too lazy to go out and do something or actually buy or make something good to eat/ -state.

Dammit, of the two places I went today, one of them was Walmart- and I did not see any.

I think fruitcake would be good..er..better.. if you poured a cup or two or three of rum on it before eating it.

I thought it already had liquor? I remember hearing something on TV this week about how the "older" fruitcakes were better, because of the alcohol fermentation...

Well yeah, but not enough to make it taste very good. That is why you just add MORE! And it is true the more 'boozy' they are the better. And maybe the alcohol acts like a 'preservative' and that is why old fruitcakes could last for decades.

Then light it on fire and at least it would be amusing.

I prefer stollen to fruitcakes. Similar idea but better and without all that candied peel and unnaturally coloured fruit formerly known as cherries.

We used to have that stollen here because we had a winterfest German thing(sister city to Dresden) and they were like rocks! I wanted to like them, but they were just too damn hard-they really were like bricks.

The festival died anyway so I never see them anymore, although my mom gets one every year from someone(some obscure friend or excoworker or something).

I love fruitcake! I order it from a bakery in Texas. I wonder if there is something seriously wrong with me?

ETA: you're right, Soj--fruitcake is becoming an endangered species here in Michigan, too.

Go to the People Of Walmart thread. Plenty there.

There are plenty of 'those' kind of fruitcakes at K-mart so I am fine there. Also I work with plenty of them . (apparently there are fruitcakes at Walmart although I missed them this morning somehow)

"dammit, I got another 'oops link appears to be broken' thing..

What is up with all the problems with the site?
