Default What's the deal with ranch dressing?

It seems to be popping up everywhere and on everything. Maybe it's more of an American thing, but I don't get the appeal. It mostly tastes like mayonnaise, only sweeter.

    Plus, it's uber fattening.

I LOVE ranch dressing. I rarely put it on salad, but it's great to dip veggies like carrots and broccoli, and I always eat french fries with it.

I don't think it tastes anything like mayo, though.

Maybe I've had lame versions of it. I just find it overly sweet. But I love dipping fries into just about anything except ketchup.

I love the ranch dressing that you make from the packet, but yuck to the bottled.

Next time you want a veggie dip, do 8 oz. mayo with 8 oz. sour cream and use one of the dry mixes or a soup mix. It definitely gives it a different flavor, I prefer it this way now. Especially when you can get econo-sized mayo at BJ's for less than 5 bucks!

Ranch dressing is great as a dip and you can "dr. it up" with all kinds of things to make different dips...pesto sauce, onion powder, hot/cajun spices, etc. especially good with veggies and chicken(in a wrap or a sandwich) IMO.

You know, I am so over ranch dressing. I used to love it so much, it's the only kind I'd use on my salad. I'd even dip my pizza in it. Actually I'd dip everything in it if I had the chance. I just don't love it anymore...for my salads I'd rather put some french or italian, or just oil and vinegar with pepper.

I like Hidden Vally Ranch, but none of the other ranch dressings. I'm pretty much over it, as well. Sometimes it's okay for a salad, but right now I'm into Oriental Sesame. Yummy!

One thing I've noticed when I go to America is that all the salad dressings are loaded with sugar. The first or second ingredient is always high fructose corn syrup. In Canada, some of the dressings have sugar, but it tends to be lower down on the ingredient list. American ketchup is the same!

All these hidden sugars must be contributing to the obesity issue.

I had some on my fingerling potatoes tonigh. I like to have ranch dressing on my baked potato instead of sour cream. MMMMM I dont eat it with anything else however my younger sister puts it on basically everything.

Your not ignorant Here is a picture of what they look like. Just basically smaller potatoes and they sort of look like fingers. They can be brown or red, they cook up very quickly.

Here in Texas, now I dont know about other places, they dont have them year round so when I see them at the store I grab them and they stay good in a cool dry place for up to a week. At least that is the limit time I put on them. I love them and Yukon Golds so much better than your regular Idaho baking potato.
