Well I ran out to the fabric store and found some shimmery olive colored fabric. I designed some pants and just finished them. They're fitted around the bum and then flare out. I haven't hemmed them because I'm not sure on the length yet (Thus the reason they are unironed and therefore denting in at the bottom in rather than flowing out nicely as they will when they're finished.) I'm thinking of making them just above or just below the knee.

So, length? scarf or no scarf?

Oh, and I'll have to get better quality pictures which AREN'T in the basement when hubby gets home. I'm crap with a self timer.

Yeah, and I've been sewing all morning so no makeup and styled hair for YOU!
Edit: And since you can't tell from the photos, here's what the fabric looks like

It won't shock anyone but you're selling yourself short here, you'd look so much better with the $39 dress posted above, you should really get it

i like the dress, although its a bit short. However, if you could wear it with tights, it would look less...revealing.

I think I was specific in saying I was sticking with the brown after some discussion. I don't like the 35$ dress...its not me. I understand what I have made may not be to you liking, but calling my design 'selling myself short' is a little rude, don't you think?

There are others who don't care for it and are politely remaining silent. I asked a length question...for those who might give me advice. While I have very much appreciated and used the advice given to me in this thread, I am not going to choose something not me.

Damn, that fabric is gorgeous, Lola. I vote pro-scarf.

I vote for the scarf too, and the longer the pants, the better and more elegant.

I'm sorry but I have to chime in here....I work in fashion for over 15 years

    I don't think it's dressy enough.....The tunic has a casual look....

You mentioned another brown dress that you (you said it was too plain)........maybe you could accessorize it to make it more evening appropriate....If the party is as swank as you say, and at a 5 star hotel you want to be dressy...

If you insist on the pants, then take the length all the way down.....pants should break on the instep.....

I agree about the pants being full-length, not cropped. It's more elegant, flattering and 'dressy' for a formal occasion.

hmmm now that i look at the outfit with the pants too...I'm not loving it. I think the design on the waist of the shirt (under your boobs) really clashes with the pants and I also think the flowy top and flowy pants is too much flowy...I also think the scarf is a little too much.

Sorry, just being honest. Why not wear a nice black dress and accesorize? always a safe bet!

I don't like it at all for this occassion. I don't think it's classy enough. You have a great little pose going on though.

Lol, well I hemmed the pants and hubby loves them, and the scarf...but not with the blouse. He wouldn't tell me what NOT to wear, but if you and he all agree that the pants clash a bit with the blouse, you're probably right. I guess I have something to wear on Xmas now (I have a cream colored blouse which I think will go well with them)

Fuck it. I'm wearing my 70s pantsuit.

    (I'll post pictures Saturday)

Then we went down to the party and had a blast. I got lots of compliments and lived happily ever after. Yay
