This is one of those situations the little black dress was made for - they can be dressed up as much as you need. Do you have a basic black number in your closet, Lola?

Lol, Well I think I have decided to wear the brown shirt definitely...so I can wear my new shoes I have one other chocolate brown dress, but it is the plainest dress ever and I refuse to wear it, heh.

So...brown with slacks and cutie pie brown pumps..and OOHH, I have a brown and blue long silk scarf. I could wear it around my neck and behind my shoulders?

Love the shoes. The dress is way too short for a formal do even if you do have knockout legs, damn you! What's wrong with wearing an old favourite? I guarantee nobody is going to think "oh look, she's wearing the same thing she wore 2 years ago" because they will be too busy obsessing about their own fashion sense (or lack of). Floral prints are always tricky for 'formals' - I tend to stick to very plain black, brown or even red and then add some zing with a really bright pashmina or bag or shoes.

^^ I agree. No one remembers what you wore two years later. Unless it was truly horrible.

Love your new shoes. Screw your SIL! (Is she still not talking to you? Have you given her the 20 bucks?)
Hello mother fucker! when you ask a question read also the answer instead of asking another question on an answer who already contain the answer of your next question!

Please don't wear the brown shirt with black pants. Black and brown is a hard combo to pull off and it's just so drab. I wouldn't wear the floral dress either, it's not classy enough either. The shoes are great and girl, you have a very nice body. You look amazing!

I am in total agreement with everything stated above. You should bust out with a beaded shawl of sorts... that would be totally sweet!
The way you're standing in the questionable dress looks like if you stood up straight it would be too short.

Hmm, I don't have a little black dress right now because my old one is a four and I am most definitely a six now. I am also not exactly brimming with cash at the moment. The last splurge I made was 150$ for the brown top pictured back in August.

Now, I know I said I wouldn't wear vintage this time, but I did make these fitted wide legs from some 60s fabric a while back. Would they work under the brown top with the brown shoes?

Bleargh. I may well then have to work my quirky angle then, because it seems like I'm going to be at least a little fashion hopeless no matter what I do.

At least I won't be wearing the shirt/dress alone and looking like a skank.

I'll probably get booted out of this thread for this suggestion but have you thought of the brown dress with some coloured thick tights? There are (in UK anyway) loads of 100 denier tights in some fab colours...at least then you'd be a bit safer from Britneyage..
