Can people post pictures of what is acceptable as casual wear for both men and women? Does location factor in? I have seen that people on the East coast of the US dress far more conservatively than those on the West coast.

Shows like What Not to Wear are great, but some styles don't transfer over well to where it rains all the time (trench coats? more like rain coats!)

not being able to wear sandals in the summer would be a pain in the ass. there are perfectly appropriate summer dresses that you can wear to work with a pair of nice dress sandals. allowing sandals doesn't mean everyone is going to suddenly show up in flip flops or crocs or giant hooker platforms or something.

I remember a woman turning up in pj pants and a t-shirt on "casual friday". Too casual, imo.

It definitely depends on your organisation too, as a local government employee it would be completely unprofessional of me to turn up in jeans or casual clothes, however it's not expected that I'll wear a suit or anything. My usual attire is dress trousers, smart top, cardi and pretty flats, plus I've always got my hair and makeup done.

One company I was at had an IT guy, who was a Zach Galafinakis lookalike, with 100 pounds extra weight, and none of the charm, walking around in a t-shirt, Bermuda shorts, and sandals.

If their respective offices allowed them to wear such things, fine. But in the offices that I have worked in, both the private and public sector, the guidelines have prohibited capris and sandals. Miami is a bit different from Philly, I imagine.

Sadly, at most offices I've worked in sandals equal flip flops or Tevas. I love a nice sandal. They look good with everything. I had the cutest sandals that I wore all summer.

Miami style is so different. When I lived there I rarely saw people wearing suits.
