Default Mother of the bride dress--pre crunch ideas

My daughter is supposed to be getting married this summer. They keep putting it off so I'm not sure it will happen and if it does I probably won't have a lot of time to find an appropriate outfit. But I'll have to buy something....

Nobody has much money so no fancy shmancy wedding is in the offing. But I've never been the mother of a bride before.....and most of the mother of the bride dresses I've seen on the internet are

    1) crazy expensive
    2) look a like Monte Carlo red carpet event
    3) look like the mother is heifer wearing upholstery fabric

None of which will be appropriate.

Show me some pictures and ideas! I'm 55 years old and approximately a size 7/8/9 and not dead yet. Or rich. Budget of $200?

Help me out here. I have just the one daughter and I hope she has just this one wedding, so I need to get it right this time. And of course I want to be gorgeous and so will she.

I'm 5' 4", about 135 lbs, dark hair, green eyes, with the usual tummy mush we older women can't seem to escape....

Looking forward to seeing your input.

What time of day? See if you can get your daughter to decide & get her input. Right now is a good time to look-lots of things on sale! Your budget is very workable. Check big department stores first-the sales are best & usually you can find someone to help you, especially if you go when they first open. Color is important. What color do you look good in? It is best for you to choose your outfit first,so the Groom's Mom will know. The best thing you can do is get out there & start looking. Don't rule out resale shops, especially in nice areas. Your daughter needs to say long or short, etc. But if you find something you love, she can just work around you!

Is the wedding formal or informal? Will the wedding be in the colder or warmer months?
All this will help pick out a style.
Also if the wedding theme colors are picked out, you prob don't want to wear something that is totally different from that. But it all depends.
Try looking in the bridal shops. Most of those places offer mother of hte bride lines.
    Good luck!

Interms of finding something nice but reasonable, have you checked out the clothes on ebay? I bought a new with tag J Crew dress to go to my best friend's wedding for $50. They also Dolce and Gabbana etc. Of course you cant try it on, but they will provide you with measurements. Empire is flattering on most body types....

Have you tried looking at David's Bridal? They have some decent looking Mother dresses ranging from jersey to satin.

Some of the mother dresses are just awful in the stores. Good luck to you.

It depends on the wedding setting, the time of day, and how formal or informal it is, though. I hope you find an outfit!

    Thanks for your replies.

I went to Nordstrom and bought a beautiful top for $128. Still need skirt. If someone can explain in simple step-by-step instructions how to post a picture, I'll show a pic of the blouse. And I have saved the receipt, just in case-- you know.
