Hey, Bluebonnet, this one's for you: My mom and her mom walking through downtown Wichita in the 1950's. I ran across it when I was scanning old family photos. My mom was a pretty snappy dresser until she got pregnant with me and I stretched out her hips (her words).

^ ^ My mom had like 200 pair of those ugly ass pants in myriad of colors. They had a sewn-in front "crease" down the front.
I love a lot of the fashion from the 60s (and some from the 70s) but man, everything seemed to be such a hassle! Girdles, slips, crinoline(for poofy skirts/dresses), Max Factor pancake makeup (I loved that shit) and liquid eyeliner. Just going to the store had to have been a 2 hour getting ready chore!

I remember the cake mascara my mother used. I used to steal the little brushes and use them as toothbrushes for my dolls.

Enid Collins box purses from the 1960's. (My mom had several and they hurt like hell when you bumped your hand into it.)

The blue ensembles were so Mary Tyler Moore. I was born in the wrong time because I love these clothes. Even the boxy outfits were feminine. I liked the way they mixed it up. It was tailored and shapely. The woman in the clothes was sexy and no vulgarity. A Halston halter dress, some jewelry and a combed hairdo. Oh whoops, I thought it was the 70s too. Well, it's all good.

This is my idea of 60s.

What I always found amazing about 60's dresses is how short some of them really were. I remember my mum having a clear out and showing me what I thought was a tunic top. It was actually a dress! Some of the things she wore in her teens were so short that they came with matching underwear for a little extra modesty!

The poses are just as fun as the outfits.

As uncomfortable as I'm sure this was, this is why women looked so stylish and neat. Proper undergarments.

My mom had girdles like that. Or foundations, as they were sometimes called. No jiggle allowed back in those days.

Exactly! No jiggle! I would watch, fascinated, as my averaged sized mother would spend almost 20 minutes, struggling to pull and squeeze herself into these. She'd be out of breath by the time she was done!

I would LOVE to have girdles like that now though. Spanx are shit compared to those old school girdles!
