    Default Summer wedding attire

So I think a few of us will be attending weddings this summer, and I know that I'm definitely looking for some fashion advice. I also love these types of threads, and I'm hoping others do too. Anyone should feel free to hop on into this thread with their own queries if they like!

I'm going to a wedding in Ottawa in early July. Quite possibly very hot. This is the venue: Weddings | Saunders Farm. I actually don't plan on buying a new dress, but I do plan on "shopping in my closet" as there are quite a few things I've never really worn and I'm excited about the weight I've lost and will (hopefully) continue to lose. So I think I'd like to wear this dress:

It does come with the belt, and yes, the belt is more pink while the dress is more red, but the belt is optional or can be switched for another. I think this has the right feel and it will be comfortable for dancing and corralling kids but still cute. Thoughts?

I definitely need some shoe advice and will be buying something new. The event will likely be a mix of indoor/outdoor, so skinny heels will be at risk of sinking into the grass, but I would like some height, not flats. And I'd like to find a wee cardi or shrug just to have the option. Completely open for jewelry, clutch, accessories. I do need insanely hypo-allergenic earrings, however. I have cool undertones and my engagement and wedding rings are white gold.

I'm also open to suggestions for my husband (he's been slimming down along with me and is just about out of clothes). A light coloured summery suit is always an option, but separate pants/sport coat might be a more practical way to go. He'll need a shirt that he can get in a Tall size but still fitted, not something for a typical "big and tall" man.

I should also mention that this wedding falls on the tail end of a 3-week-long road trip, and we need to pack light and make things do double duty. I'm thinking I can work this dress at a more casual summer party as well, but I need to be mindful of the total shoe count. Whatever I wear for the wedding I'd like to also be able to wear out to dinner, etc. They don't have to be casual but it would be nice if they didn't look too out of place for a trip to the mall or whatever, because my only other options might be hiking shoes or casual sandals.

    Thanks, gang!

i love that dress and think it is perfect for a summer wedding! i'd switch out the belt because pink with red gives me the willies and a pair of cute wedges would be great. you could always do a wrap so that you could put it over your lap if you are in an air conditioned space or if it cools down at night.

I do think wedges are the safest choice. Does the dress really need a belt?

    Wear hoop earrings!

I'd love to see some small earrings that would match the red dress. Love that dress so much. Looks so breezy and elegant. I wonder how a straw/raffia type of wedge shoe would look? And a matching straw/raffia clutch. Kind of garden party chic.

Wedges for sure. Nothing worse than standing on tippy toes to avoid heels getting buried/ruined in the mud. I'd go for white/cream accessories to match the polka dots. Instead of a cardy take a stylishly draped and versatile pashmina.

definitely go with wedges. you could do a cute espadrille wedge, maybe something with a cute or retro design that's interesting enough for a wedding but not totally out of place for a casual night out.
i would leave my decision about the belt until after you find the shoes. i think pink and red can work if it's styled right. i would also add a cute clutch

i like a lot of these. i included some red ones, even though i personally don't like the matchy look, but that's a question of personal choice. you could also go for silver. blue would look great with that shade of red, and you can also go with black.

sorry, that's a lot of giant pictures. i'm home sick so looking for shoes on the internet gives me something to do

    ^ Epic.

Thanks, ladies! I was definitely thinking wedges but couldn't quite envision the perfect pair. I like the idea of adding another colour - like blue - with the shoes. I agree that red and pink can work together, but it's always seemed kind of random with this particular dress. In real life, they're not two particular shades I would have put together, but I'm keeping an open mind.
