Punk rock-inspired hairdos featuring a shaved side (or sides) came into vogue last year, thanks to British socialite Alice Dellal and pop stars including Rihanna and Cassie.

But L.A.'s love affair with uber-feminine locks runs ocean-deep, so we doubted we'd see the trend gain much traction locally.

Boy, were we wrong. Suddenly, we're seeing sheared-sided hairstyles everywhere — mostly shorter cuts with a single side cropped right up to the skull.

Last night alone we spotted three shaved 'dos at the Silverlake Lounge, and have seen incarnations of the look on fashion-forward girls of all ethnicities at recent fashion parties, including the opening soiree for Thvm Atelier downtown.

Big-league choreographer Laurieann Gibson, who's featured in "The Dance Scene" series on E, boasts a single shaved side, with long, flowing locks on the other.

But shorter, spikier shaved styles are becoming more ubiquitous, often featuring eye-covering, strategicially mussed bangs and hard angles.

The look isn't for the style neophyte — or, for the most part, the 35-plus-set — but it's especially interesting on girls with minimal, pared-down personal style, since the cut becomes the main focal point of any outfit, and its ilk was originally teamed with messy, colorful punker gear (a combo that comes off as too throwback now.)

um, people have been doing this for years in london and japan and half the arcade fire has similar cuts too. i guess it took years for the look to make it to california.
