Default Murder scenes as fashion in Barney's NY windows

These displays, featuring mannequins posed as if they are being attacked by an invisible assailant, could be seen in the windows at Barneys New York this week:

They were disassembled when shoppers complained.

    [Via NY Daily News:]

Simon Doonan, creative director of Barneys, said the displays were installed while he was away overseeing advertising shoots and that he had ordered them dismantled.

They were taken down shortly after the Daily News called to inquire about them yesterday afternoon.

"We encourage our display people to be creative. We give them a lot of latitude, but this clearly crossed the line," he said. "It's as if someone saw a bad Hitchcock movie."

    i think it's hilarious.
people should be ecstatic about the fact that fashion can be expressed in creative ways like this.

But you can't even see the dresses. It would be fine for an art gallery but weird and badly executed for a window dressing.

What Beeyotch said. I was just thinking it would be much better in an art gallery. Not so great for show-casing fashion.

the dress in the first window is clearly visible to me. and the mannequin in the other window is bended into an uncomfortable position so you will have to cock your head a bit to see what she's wearing but other than that, i don't see a problem with it. and there's certainly not enough blood spatter to obscure your view, imo.
    i think it's a really fun idea.

eta: and i also like it that you see the clothes captured in motion/'freezed'.

but of course people had to complain and have it removed...

it doesnt look like a murder scene to me. it looks like someone just tossed a mannequin in there and shot some red dye around with a squirt gun.

and you cant really tell what kind of dress is being displayed. i'll give them an A for creativity, but an F in design.

I can appreciate the display both creatively and on a consumer level. At least I'll know what I'd look like being murdered in a Helmut Lang snazzy black dress.
