Best-Dressed Women Of 2005
Quote:
DESPITE a troublesome few months, Kate Moss has been named Best-Dressed Woman Of 2005.
The 31-year-old supermodel lost lucrative contracts after being pictured snorting cocaine in a scandal which threatened to wreck her career.
But being voted No1 in the poll of the world’s most stylish individuals means Croydon-born Kate has lost none of her appeal.
Sienna Miller, 23, who sparked the trend for hippy chic and has been dubbed Kate’s fashion rival, came third in the first annual survey for Grazia magazine.
Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson, 21, a fan of Fifties-style glamour, was second.
However, Victoria Beckham, who has forged a career in fashion since the end of her girl band chart-topping years, only came 10th.
The former Spice Girl, 31, was beaten by Pride And Prejudice actress Keira Knightley, 20, in ninth place.
Singer Gwen Stefani, 36, came fourth and Nicole Kidman, 38, placed fifth in the poll of 3,000 readers.
Grazia editor Jane Bruton said: “These stars tend to embrace a distinctive, individual style rather than follow fashion trends.
“Gwen Stefani, for example, has now firmly established herself as a fashion leader with her eccentric look.
“Keira Knightley has also blossomed this year from a gawky teen to a red carpet queen.
“Whatever trouble she’s had in her private life, Kate Moss remains the style icon of our times, with an incredible 34 per cent of the vote for number one.
“When Scarlett Johansson (second in our poll) wore a Roland Mouret dress to the Oscars, suddenly bohemian, hippy chic was dead in the water and the womanly hourglass silhouette became the hot story.”
Top 10
(With quotes from Jane)
1. Kate Moss
“Still a major fashion influence... whether she likes it or not she has
become an icon for our times.”
2. Scarlett Johansson
“Instead of slimming to fit in with Hollywood convention, she flaunts her voluptuous figure in amazing hourglass dresses.”
3. Sienna Miller
“A free spirit.”
4. Gwen Stefani
“The rulebreaker. It’s taken the world a while to get her eccentric style
but, now, where she leads, others follow.”
5. Nicole Kidman
“The designer’s dream: long-legged and whippet thin with a wardrobe budget that knows no bounds.”
6. Angelina Jolie
“Angelina has shed her action girl image to become the epitome of
elegance.”
7. Kirsten Dunst
“Indie princess Kirsten bucks every Hollywood trend.”
8. Jennifer Aniston
“The All-American Girl who epitomises grace under pressure.”
9. Keira Knightley
“The cropped tops and stringy hair are now gone. New-look Keira is all pretty dresses, soft hair, gorgeous bags and glam shoes.”
10. Victoria Beckham
“When Victoria gets a fashion look into her head she wears it and wears it and, when she gets bored, she drops it and moves right on.”

Re: Best-Dressed Women Of 2005
Some of those choices are horrid.
Kirsten Dunst?
Sienna Miller?
Those would have to be worse with Gwen Stepani in for a close third.

Re: Best-Dressed Women Of 2005
I only think that Sienna and a few others are on that list because they just dress differently, not because they dress the best. I have never seen Sienna Miller in an outfit I like, but people who see something that is different, they usually think that it looks good. For example, when the Olsen twins did the Boho look, everybody said they dressed awesome. They didn't dress awesome, they dressed horridly, but people didn't know how to react to it, so they thought it was good.
I could be the only one that thinks that, though.

Re: Best-Dressed Women Of 2005
1. Kate Moss
“Still a major fashion influence... whether she likes it or not she has
become an icon for our times.” This I'll agree with.
2. Scarlett Johansson
“Instead of slimming to fit in with Hollywood convention, she flaunts her voluptuous figure in amazing hourglass dresses.” OK with this one, but #2? Really now!
3. Sienna Miller
“A free spirit.” Free to rip off Kate Moss that is.
4. Gwen Stefani
“The rulebreaker. It’s taken the world a while to get her eccentric style
but, now, where she leads, others follow.” Hooker clown on crack. Sure, that's a style I want to follow.
5. Nicole Kidman
“The designer’s dream: long-legged and whippet thin with a wardrobe budget that knows no bounds.” She does wear gowns well.
6. Angelina Jolie
“Angelina has shed her action girl image to become the epitome of
elegance.” Love her.
7. Kirsten Dunst
“Indie princess Kirsten bucks every Hollywood trend.” Since when is this Ork an indie princess? More like: "Lord of the Rings troll wears different variations of burlap sacks".
8. Jennifer Aniston
“The All-American Girl who epitomises grace under pressure.” Sure, if by 'grace' you mean 'whining'. She dresses OK, not best by far.
9. Keira Knightley
“The cropped tops and stringy hair are now gone. New-look Keira is all pretty dresses, soft hair, gorgeous bags and glam shoes.” OK with her.
10. Victoria Beckham
“When Victoria gets a fashion look into her head she wears it and wears it and, when she gets bored, she drops it and moves right on.” Slave, and sometimes victim, to and and every fashion trend. Not an original bone in her body.

Personally I often don't like their style, especially Sienna's.
But I understand that - like it or not - the way they dress is so unique and eccentric that it catches attention, and I accept that these critics thought it deserved to be praised.
But Kirsten and Keira's dress sense is not good, not bad, not unique, not eccentric, not attention-catching...it's just non-existing, neither in a positive nor in a negative way, so why would anyone spend a word to comment on it???
