    Default The best movie dresses of all time

    The emerald green dress worn by actress Keira Knightley in Atonement has been voted the best film costume of all time.

    The bias-cut, backless silk gown had fashion editors raving when it first appeared on screen last year.

    It was voted top in a survey by Sky Movies and In Style magazine.

    Marilyn Monroe's white dress from The Seven Year Itch, worn as she stood over a subway grate, was second.

    The little black Givenchy dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's was third.

    Olivia Newton-John sported the first non-dress to appear at the list - her skin-tight black pants from the final scene of Grease came in at number four.

    Coming in at number five was Kate Winslet's ensemble from Titanic.

    The rest of the top 10 was:

    6. Diane Keaton's tie and waistcoat in Annie Hall;

    7. Nicole Kidman's satin corset from Moulin Rouge;

    8. Liza Minnelli's stockings and bowler hat in Cabaret;

    9. The gown worn by Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth: The Golden Age;

    10. Vivien Leigh's dresses from Gone With The Wind.

    Alicia Silverstone: "I think that the film Clueless was very deep. I think it was deep in the way that it was very light. I think lightness has to come from a very deep place if it's true lightness."

    I think Rita Hayworth's slinky number in Gilda is right up there, too.

    I heard this on the news this morning. I don't get it, how can they choose Keria's dress so quickly, Atonement isn't even in national release yet. I think it's just a bit of a "love it coz its NOW!" thing.

    I'm sorry, but I don't think Keira Knightley's dress was the prettiest. It looks like it's just hanging on her.

    I like a lot of Vivian Leigh's dresses from "Gone With The Wind" My most favorite was this red dress.

    Don't rate the Keira Knightly dress, but then again I don't like green very much. I wish I could find a pic but Kim Basinger wore an amazing 'goddess' draped satin dress in LA Confidential. Not strictly a movie dress but I also loved the black and white Valentino dress Julia Roberts wore when she won her Oscar.

    No, it was more draped and showed off her cleavage more! Similar fabric though.
