Celebs and their fur
Quote:
I can't say for certain whether it's all real or faux; but it seems fur has become more popular again recently as a trend.
Sarah Jessica Parker teamed a full brown fur coat with elements of the cyberpunk trend while the Olsen twins have been wearing plenty of fur, from throws to collars to coats.

White fur has been a hit this week with the likes of Kate Moss and Kate Hudson (below).

Seems you won't be seeing any fur on Eva Mendes though... What do you think of the fur trend?

Maybe you can throw red paint on a celebrity's fur coat, but I wouldn't try that on your average every day person...you might catch a beat down.

i have a little rabbit fur collar thingie that i wear sometimes in winter. i have no problem with that since i also eat rabbit so there's no waste. to me it's no different than wearing leather. i'm not into fur at all though. i hope i don't have red paint sprayed on me - pisses me off that people don't seem to make a difference between real fur from animals killed just for their skin, and rabbit and faux which are not in the same category at all.

I agree, rabbit fur is on the same category as leather. I don't eat rabbit, so I don't personally wear it, but at least it's not killed solely for it fur like foxes or minks.

I do think throwing paint on a fur garment some poor animal has already died for is INSULTING TO THE ANIMAL! He/she already suffered enough.

Frankly I find fur damned ugly unless it's on an animal, so the ethical question has never come up for me.
And if you throw red paint on a celebrity's fur coat and ruin it, aren't they just going to go out and buy another one, causing the suffering and death of yet more animals? Just a thought.

People do not have a right to destroy someone's property just because they don't agree with it morally. That's a form of terrorism.

I've always thought people wore fur because a) they didn't know of the terrible suffering the animal had to go through or b) they did but just didn't care. I don't know which is more evil.

I think I read somewhere that SJP's coat was faux fur, but who knows. I don't understand why people wear fur for vanity purposes. At least with something like leather or even rabbit, the meat is used so it's not wasteful.

If you wander around Knightsbridge in London, especially around Harrods, you will see dozens of women (usually megarich Italian matrons) in the most amazing fur coats. I'm talking sable, ermine, mink, arctic fox - you name it. They don't give a shit what people think. Apart from the moral aspects of the fur trade I don't personally like the look of fur as a 'fashion' statement but plenty of people do. But being a petard and chucking paint over someone wearing fur is childish.

I'm definitely against fur for fashion, and like many of you I also think it's pretty hideous. An enormous boxy fur coat is just not flattering! And faux fur definitely does the trick for small things, like the lining of boots, collars on coats, etc. There is admittedly a warmth aspect as well as a fashion one, but all of my linings, collars and tufts are faux, and I don't get why anyone would feel the need to wear the real deal (the Inuit in the frozen north who are using all of the animal and truly need the warmth is another matter).
That said, I'm not about the paint-chucking. Not only is it the destruction of someone else's property, but you just never know - maybe a lady's fur coat was actually passed down by her grandmother, in which case: a) the animals were killed long ago and you can't bring them back by letting the coat rot in the closet; and b) if the coat were destroyed, she may then want to buy a new one, which means the perpetuation of the industry. Wearing anything vintage is better for the environment anyway, as you're not spurring the production and waste that goes into a new product. PETA cheered when Pam Anderson suggested people donate their furs to the homeless, but I guess they don't care if better-off people are wearing something equally second-hand? Also, maybe the fur is faux, does PETA actually have some way of checking first?

PETArds have a habit of acting first, thinking later. Believe it or not I do sympathise with what they are trying to achieve, ie, the ethical treatment of animals BUT they go about it all the wrong way and it's completely impractical to say that no animals should ever be 'used' by humans. Some of the extremists even have a problem with people having pet animals which they consider to be 'exploitation'.

I like faux fur on collars or hats, but I don't think there's any excuse for the real thing. I get pretty irritated though when I wear a jacket with a faux fur collar and the local PETA fuck-tard starts eyeballing me like I just murdered his mother. People need to start learning the different between real and synthetic and then if they like the look of fur, embrace the synthetic.

That last pic isn't real fur, I can tell from here.
