The thing is she isn't fat she just refuses to wear things that fit her. A "curvy" girl looks fatter with tight clothes than she does with clothes that don't cling to every curve. The first impulse is to wear the smallest size you can button. You will look better if you go up a size or two - cut out the tags if it bothers you
