Default Pat Robertson blames Sharon's stroke on the hand of God

Robertson blamed Sharon stroke on policy of "dividing God's land"

Summary: Pat Robertson suggested that Ariel Sharon's stroke occurred because he was "dividing God's land."

On the January 5 edition of Christian Broadcasting Network's (CBN) The 700 Club, host Pat Robertson suggested that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's recent stroke was the result of Sharon's policy, which he claimed is "dividing God's land." Robertson admonished: "I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU [European Union], the United Nations, or United States of America." Although Robertson professed that "Sharon was personally a very likeable person," he nonetheless declared that "God has enmity against those who, quote, 'divide my land.' " Robertson called the 1995 assassination of former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin "the same thing." A previous CBN news article, titled "Dividing the Land, Dishonoring God's Covenant," examined Sharon's decision to return control of the Gaza strip to the Palestinian Authority.

Robertson's comment was first reported by JTA, an international news service that covers "issues of concern to the Jewish people," and Joshua Micah Marshall's Talking Points Memo weblog, which links to the JTA website.

From the January 5 edition of CBN's The 700 Club:

ROBERTSON: I have said last year that Israel was entering into the most dangerous period of its entire existence as a nation. That is intensifying this year with the loss of Sharon. Sharon was personally a very likeable person. I am sad to see him in this condition. But I think we need to look at the Bible and the Book of Joel. The prophet Joel makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who, quote, "divide my land." God considers this land to be his. You read the Bible, he says, "This is my land." And for any prime minister of Israel who decides he going carve it up and give it away, God says, "No. This is mine." And the same thing -- I had a wonderful meeting with Yitzhak Rabin in 1974. He was tragically assassinated, and it was terrible thing that happened, but nevertheless, he was dead. And now Ariel Sharon, who was again a very likeable person, a delightful person to be with. I prayed with him personally. But here he is at the point of death. He was dividing God's land, and I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU, the United Nations or United States of America. God said, "This land belongs to me, you better leave it alone."

oooo, Pat Robertson....the bible is not meant to be interpreted like this....

but since he wants to use this logic....if Isreal is God's land, what about the rest of earth? since it's not God's land, why doesn't he just go to Isreal and get real with God?

shit, we don't need him here, living comfortably while isrealis and Palestinians kill each other. Let him live in that tension and then let him start talking...

Another gem from Pat Robertson. I'm starting to wonder if he's a secret plant by an anti-Christian group to destroy any credibility of the religion. No God would create someone this fooking stupid!!

As a Jew and a Zionist, I want to know what his agenda is. Why does he care? My dh thinks it's because the Israelis allow Christians to be at Bethlehem, but Muslims wouldn't. I don't know...

Isn't it a precondition of Jesus's return to earth that the Jews
return to the Holy Land (and settle there) before He will return
to earth?

If Robertson is devout enough to believe in God and the Scriptures,
I suspect he believes in the Resurrection -- which means that
Christ's Second Coming will not happen as long as Jerusalem is
occupied by Muslims.

Having said that, I don't think you should declare all physical ailments
to be a punishment from God. There is Nature to think about.

Hmmmm, lets see... Sharon was/is a workaholic, severly overweight, old, and probably smoked, as alot of Israelis do. Hmmm, stroke was not a natural occurrence at all..

Who said Muslims would not allow Christians to be in that land?Arab Muslims, Arab Christians and even Jews used to co-exist and live peacefully in that land for centuries and centuries. The tension started when it was declared for Palestine to be a national home for the Jews.

Well, the evanligelical christians are allied with the Zionists for religious reasons. That is why this has become has a political tool in the Midlde East Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Since, in the Bible, it claims that god promised that land to the Jews, some Christians believe that to be and want it to be that way. Also, because of this Bible belief, some Christians believe that when the Jews get all back to Israel, that Jesus Christ will return.

Pat Robertson is a complete lunatic. Not one word that comes out of his mouth should be listened to much less debated. End of story.

"Palestine" *cough*, i.e. Israel is the homeland of the Jews.

Israel breaks contact with Robertson
by Chris in Paris - 1/12/2006 03:38:00 AM

The Israeli Toursim Minister had been negotiating a special lease with American Christian organizations, led by Robertson, for land to be developed near many historical sites in Israel. After Roberston's latest outrageous attack, this time on Sharon, Israel has decided to "stop all contact" with Robertson or anyone who supports Robertson's statements. Good for them.
HA HA no jesusland for fundies! I so wanted to ride the 'Bris' rollercoaster, I heard it was gonna be killer..

I personally wonder how many of Robertson's followers
deserted him after the world failed to go batsh!t on Y2K.
He was recommending that they take barrels of food
(corn, rice, etc.) and hide in their cellars with all the
spare batteries they could find.
