The characters in this movie should be arrested for loitering with intent to moan. Never have teenagers been in greater need of a jump-start. Granted some of them are more than 100 years old, but still: their charisma is by Madame Tussaud. "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" takes the tepid achievement of "Twilight" (2008), guts it, and leaves it for undead. You know you're in trouble with a sequel when the word of mouth advises you to see the first movie twice instead. Obviously the characters all have. Long opening stretches of this film make utterly no sense unless you walk in knowing the first film, and hopefully both Stephanie Meyer novels, by heart. Edward and Bella spend murky moments glowering at each other and thinking, So, here we are again.

Bella (Kristen Stewart) is still living at home with her divorced dad (Billy Burke), a cop whose disciplinary policy involves declaring her grounded for the rest of her life and then disappearing so she can jump from cliffs, haunt menacing forests, and fly to Italy so the movie can evoke the sad final death scene from--why, hold on, it's Romeo and Juliet! The very play Edward was reciting narcissistically and contemptuously in an opening scene.

Yes, Edward (Robert Pattinson) is back in school, repeating the 12th grade for the 84th time. Bella sees him in the school parking lot, walking toward her in slow-motion, wearing one of those Edwardian Beatles jackets with a velvet collar, pregnant with his beauty. How white his skin, how red his lips. The decay of middle age may transform him into the Joker.

Edward and the other members of the Cullen vampire clan stand around a lot with glowering skulks. Long pauses interrupt longer ones. Listen up, lads! You may be immortal, but we've got a train to catch.

Edward leaves, because Bella was not meant to be with him. Although he's a vegetarian vampire, when she gets a paper cut at her birthday party one of his pals leaps on her like a shark on a tuna fish.

In his absence she's befriended by Jake (Taylor Lautner), that nice American Indian boy. "You've gotten all buff!" she tells him. Yeah, real buff, and soon he's never wearing a shirt and standing outside in the winter rain as if he were--why, nothing more than a wild animal. They don't need coats like ours, remember, because God gave them theirs.

Those not among that five percent of the movie's target audience that doesn't already know this will (spoiler) be surprised that Jake is a werewolf.

Bella: So…you're a werewolf?
Jake: Last time I checked.
Bella: "Can't you find a way to...just stop?
Jake (patiently): "It's not a lifestyle choice, Bella."

Jake is influenced, or controlled, or something, by Sam, another member of the tribe. He's like the alpha wolf. Sam and his three friends are mostly seen in long shot, shirtless in the rain, hanging around the edges of the clearing as if hoping to dash in and pick off some fresh meat.

Bella writes long letters to her absent vampire friend Alice (Ashley Greene), in which she does nothing to explain why she is helplessly attracted to these sinister, humorless and vain men. It can't be the sex. As I've already explained in my review of the first film, The Twilight Saga is an extended metaphor for teen chastity, in which the punishment for being deflowered I will leave to your imagination.

The movie includes beauteous fields filled with potted flowers apparently buried hours before by the grounds crew, and nobody not clued in on the plot. Since they know it all and we know all, sitting through this experience is like driving a pickup in low gear though a sullen sea of Brylcreem.

In a press release recieved Thursday evening Tim Bennett, the president of Harpo, Oprah's production company, the show will go off the air.

Movie Talk: New 'Fight Club' Blu-rays Come with a Prank by the Director

Don't be shocked when you load up your new Blu-ray version of director David Fincher's 1999 cult classic "Fight Club" this holiday season and the menu screen appears to be from the Drew Barrymore romantic comedy "Never Been Kissed." It turns out it's all a prank by Fincher.
After noticing the gag with a preview copy, The Onion's AV Club contacted Fox Home Entertainment and had its suspicions confirmed: while the original "Fight Club" menu replaces the "Never Been Kissed" one after a few seconds, the "snafu" was no accident.

Turns out that Fincher thought it would be funny to use the menu from a sweet bubble-gum romance -- the farthest possible thing from the very dark "Fight Club" -- that was a much bigger box office success when both films were released in 1999. Barrymore's inexpensive comedy grossed $55 million in the U.S., while the big-budget "Fight Club" only brought in $37 million. Of course, "Fight Club" has developed a loyal and vocal fan following over the past decade, and it is listed in the top 10 of Total Film's and Empire magazine's Greatest Films of All Time lists.
Don't worry about the practical joke hurting Drew Barrymore's feelings, though. "Fight Club" actor Edward Norton is friends with the "Never Been Kissed" star and producer, so she gave the OK for the gag. Sharp-eyed viewers can also spot Barrymore in the movie itself. There is one shot of a discarded Movieline magazine with her on the cover.
Critics that were sent a review copy of the new Blu-ray were specifically asked not to disclose the joke before it went on sale this past Tuesday. Apparently, the first rule of "Fight Club" still stands: you do not talk about "Fight Club."

Gerard Butler in Sin City sequel?

More from good ol Gerry. This time while chatting to MTV, he revealed that he has talked with Frank Miller about a possible role in a future Sin City movie...
�I could see myself working with Frank again,� explained the "Law Abiding Citizen" star. �But, I don�t know. Graphic novels are things that I wouldn�t do a lot of, so I would have to really choose carefully before I did.�
Butler then revealed that he had spoken to Frank Miller, not about the proposed 300 sequel, but about a role in Miller and Robert Rodriguez' much talked about Sin City 2!
"At one point, he talked to me about one of the 'Sin City' [movies], and we discussed that.�
Although Butler didn�t reveal his character�s name, he reported that Miller wanted him not for this next film, but likely for the one after that.
�There�s a kind of cool character I think in the third one, but it was all very kind of soft talk.�
Man, I can't think of a better fit for Sin City. Marv. vs. Leonidas? Yes please.

Comics2Film at Mania.com spoke exclusively to producer, Stephen L�Heureux, of Solipsist Films who apparently confirms that Sin City 2 will go into production in the second half of 2010.
On top of �confirming� the Sin City sequel�s start date, he also revealed that unlike the first movie, Sin City 2 would be based on an original screenplay by Frank Miller, with him co-directing alongside Robert Rodriguez once again.
Some of the original cast who will reprise their roles include Clive Owen, Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Alba, Brittany Murphy, Mand Michael Clarke Duncan. The release date is also still to be determined.

Finally, L�Heureux spoke a bit about why it�s taking so long for the long awaited, much anticipated Sin City 2 to get going:�As simple as �Sin City� seems, it�s a very complex scheduling with all these actors and it�s a very demanding shoot to be on a sound stage all day long� We have to space it for Frank [Miller]. There�s also talk, of course, of �Sin City 3′.�

Manos: The Hands of Fate (1966): where are the credits?!

This is a no-budget horror film made by an El Paso, Texas fertilizer salesman. It is famous for having an opening nine-minute sequence in which nothing happens but endless driving through the countryside, due to someone forgetting to add in the credits!.

The film gained cult popularity by being featured on the Mystery Science Theater 3000 television show. It was the #1 movie on the IMDb Bottom 100 for a long time since the list was first created. Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino owns a rare 35 mm copy of the film, and has stated that it is his favorite "comedy."

Plan 9 from Outer Space (1956): almost starring Bela Lugosi

The film is introduced and narrated by television psychic The Amazing Criswell, and involves aliens who attempt to conquer the Earth by resurrecting corpses from a cemetery. The aliens have divined that the human race will soon develop the ultimate weapon: a "solaranite bomb" (or "solarbonite") that can "explode the particles of sunlight" and ultimately destroy the universe. They have attempted eight times to persuade humanity not to build the bomb, but find themselves unable to even get humanity's attention. "Plan 9", their plan to resurrect the dead, is their final, desperate attempt. Unbelievably, this is all claimed to be based on sworn testimony, even though Criswell says it takes place in the future.
Produced and directed by Ed Wood, the movie is widely regarded as a leading candidate for the title of "worst movie ever made", the film is infamous for "almost starring" Bela Lugosi, since the scenes featuring Lugosi were not shot with this film in mind at all.

Anus Magillicutty (2003): the anti-movie that anti-matters

The film focuses on the character Anus, who is obsessed with alcohol and sex. The story involves Anus' efforts to hide a dead body. Eventually, however, Anus also has a run-in with Satan. As Anus explains to his brother, "Remember that contract we had with Satan? To make us beautiful? ...I think he's come to collect."
In late 2005 and early 2006, it ranked number 1 on the Internet Movie Database bottom 100 list, meaning that it received the lowest scores among people evaluating films in the site's extensive database. A critic from the State Press Magazine considers this to be the worst film ever,[1] although the film was actually marketed that way, with the State Press quote appearing on the poster. Anus Magillicutty was directed by Morey Fineburgh, and although written by Abraham Fineburgh, there was allegedly no real screenplay.

Gigli (2003): The end of Bennyfer

Originally a very dark comedy with no romantic subplot, the producers demanded script rewrites throughout filming. Some reviewers dubbed the film "The ultimate turkey of all time", referring to Lopez's character's sex talk to Affleck's character inviting him to commit an act of oral sex: "It's turkey time." "What?" "Gobble, gobble."
The Times newspaper gave the movie the rating below their lowest possible score of 0 stars, the only movie to recieve this score. This film is also said to have been a factor in the break-up of the engagement between its two stars. Winner of 7 Razzies (including 2005's Worst "Comedy" of Our First 25 Years). In addition Ben Affleck mocked the film on Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show.

Monster A Go Go (1965): No continuity, incomprehensible non-ending

The plot concerns an American astronaut who mysteriously disappears from his spacecraft as it parachutes to Earth. The vanished astronaut is apparently replaced by and/or turned into a large, radioactive, humanoid monster. A team of scientists and military men attempt to capture the monster--and at one point succeed, only to have him escape again (however, both the capture and the escape are never shown, with only the narrator revealing this to us).
Monster A Go-Go has an unusual, perhaps even unique, production history. Director Bill Rebane ran out of money while making the film. Lewis, who needed a second film to show with his own feature, Moonshine Mountain, bought the film, added a few extra scenes and some dialogue, and then released it, creating an odd, disjointed film with little continuity. The film is infamous among those who have seen it for its incomprehensible "non-ending."

Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever (2002): even the game was better

Starring Lucy Liu and Antonio Banderas, the film was universally panned by critics and is believed to have no redeeming features (not even the comedy value normally associated with bad films). It is often listed among the worst movies ever made. Financially, the film was a box office failure, grossing just over $14 million compared to its $70 million budget. Liu and Banderas play opposing secret agents who are supposedly enemies, but rather than fighting each other they end up teaming up to take down the megalomaniacal director of the NSA.
A Game Boy Advance first-person shooter, Ecks vs. Sever, was based on a very old version of the movie's script and, storywise, is almost nothing like the film. It was released before the movie. A version after the movie's release, considered a sequel to the game but which followed the movie, was considered an impressive technological feat on the GBA and was much better accepted than the movie itself.

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964): martians kidnap Santa Claus

Momar ("Mom Martian") and Kimar ("King Martian") are worried that their martian children are watching too much Earth television, most notably station KIDD's interview with Santa Claus in his workshop at the North Pole. So Martian leaders decide to kidnap Santa Claus from Earth and bring him to Mars to make toys for the children of their planet.
Famous in the "so bad it's good"-category, it has been featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000 and holds a spot in IMDb's worst 100. Also cited on a 10-worst list in The Book of Lists, The Fifty Worst Films of All Time, and the 2004 DVD documentary, The 50 Worst Movies Ever Made. Features an early screen appearance by 1980s film icon Pia Zadora. The Canadian TV channel "Space: The Imagination Station" airs this bomb every Christmas as a salute to bad sci-fi.

From Justin to Kelly (2003): From Theater To Video

The movie features Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini, the winner and runner-up of the first series of American Idol, respectively. Texan singing waitress Kelly Taylor (played by Clarkson) meets Pennsylvania college student Justin Bell (played by Guarini), they fall for each other, and then spend the rest of the movie trying to get together.
The critics began mercilessly deriding the movie upon news of its making, and the movie was the box office bomb they predicted despite its association with the popular television show. In an interesting twist, theater chains threatened not to show it at all when distributor 20th Century Fox—anticipating a theatrical flop. On the Internet Movie Database website the film is currently the worst movie ever made. Other listing systems also rate it among the worst movies ever made. Craig Kilborn gave it a short and devastating review one day after its release, with the words: "Here's the movie: From Justin To Kelly. Here's my review: From Theater To Video". The film's choreography was considered so bad that a special Golden Raspberry "Governor's Award" was created just so From Justin to Kelly could win it.

An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn (1997): directed by Alan Smithee

In the film, an editor by the name of Alan Smithee (played by Eric Idle) has been allowed to direct Trio, a big-budget action film starring Sylvester Stallone, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jackie Chan. However, the studio recuts the film, and when Smithee sees the results (which he describes as being "worse than Showgirls") and realises that he cannot use a pseudonym (because the only one allowed is "Alan Smithee") he steals the film and goes on the run, threatening to burn it.
The film was written (and produced, though he wasn't credited for it) by Joe Eszterhas, and directed by Arthur Hiller. However, Hiller objected to the way Eszterhas recut the film. So, as a result, in one of Hollywood's greatest ironies, An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn is officially directed by Alan Smithee. The movie was regarded as one of the worst films of all time, and managed to win five awards (including Worst Picture) at the 1998 Golden Raspberry Awards. The film grossed $45,000, which, accounting for inflation, is less than Plan 9 from Outer Space made during its release.

Batman & Robin (1997): or how Batman became gay

The fourth installment of the Warner Bros. franchise that began with 1989's Batman and the lowest-grossing of the film series. This film is often billed as the worst superhero movie of all time, even to the point that star George Clooney said he would refund people's money if they stopped him on the street and said they had paid to see it.
In an interview with Barbara Walters, Clooney claims he played Batman gay. The director Joel Schumacher also reputedly admits to not being proud of this film (to the point where he flat-out apologizes for the film, according to his commentary on the 2005 Special Edition DVD set), despite earlier statements to the contrary.
Batman & Robin earned the nickname "Batman on Ice" for a scene in which the titular heroes both inexplicably have retractable skate blades hidden inside their boots. The film was mocked for the poor script, over-extending the campy attitude of the previous installment Batman Forever, the poor casting of other "big-name" stars Uma Thurman and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the addition of a poorly portrayed Batgirl, played by Alicia Silverstone. Likely due to the film's poor reception, no more Batman movies were made for nearly eight years.

Set during World War II, it focuses on a man torn between, in the words of one character, love and virtue. He must choose between his love for a woman and helping her and her Resistance leader husband escape from the Vichy-controlled Moroccan city of Casablanca to continue his fight against the Nazis.

DIRTY DANCING � Baby heads off to holiday camp and finds her life changed forever. Johnny Castle sweeps her off her feet literally with sensuous dance moves. Dancing is a great way to rekindle your romance!
Dirty Dancing is a 1987 romance film. Written by Eleanor Bergstein and directed by Emile Ardolino, the film features Jennifer Grey, Patrick Swayze, Cynthia Rhodes, and Jerry Orbach. The story details the moment of time that a teenaged girl crosses over into womanhood both physically and emotionally, through a relationship with a dance instructor during a family summer vacation. Around a third of the movie involves dancing scenes choreographed by Kenny Ortega (later famous for High School Musical), and the finale has been described as �the most goosebump-inducing dance scene in movie history�.

SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE � What if you never met someone but you knew they were your soul mate? Well, this movie shows how a couple can be united by the universe because of a karmic connection.
Sleepless in Seattle is a 1993 American romantic comedy film written and directed by Nora Ephron. Based on a story by Jeff Arch, it stars Tom Hanks as Sam Baldwin and Meg Ryan as Annie Reed.
The film was inspired by An Affair to Remember and used both its theme song and clips from the film in critical scenes. The climactic meeting at the top of the Empire State Building is a reference to a reunion between Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr in An Affair to Remember that fails to happen because the Kerr character is struck by a car while enroute. At one point, some of the characters discuss Affair, with Sam commenting that it sounds like a �chick movie.�

Roman Holiday is a 1953 romantic comedy. The film introduced American audiences to Belgian-born actress Audrey Hepburn, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Gregory Peck and Eddie Albert co-starred. The movie was directed and produced by William Wyler. It was written by John Dighton and author Dalton Trumbo. As Trumbo was on the Hollywood blacklist, he was not credited; instead, Ian McLellan Hunter fronted for him. Trumbo�s name was finally digitally added to the film�s credits when it was released on DVD in 2003.

TITANIC � A woman�s heart can carry her man�s love forever. Rose meets Jack on board the ill-fated Titanic and despite their social differences, fall in love. Though their romance was short-lived their romance lives on.

The Reader is an Academy Award-nominated and BAFTA, Golden Globe Award-winning 2008 British drama film based on the 1995 German novel of the same name by Bernhard Schlink. The film adaptation was written by David Hare and directed by Stephen Daldry. Ralph Fiennes and Kate Winslet star along with the young actor David Kross. It was the last film for producers Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack, who both died before it was released. Production began in Germany in September 2007, and the film opened in limited release on 10 December 2008.

Eddie Winslow - the new Malcolm Winters in The Young and the Restless?

Fans of The Young and the Restless who�ve been holding out hope that the smoldering Shemar Moore will reprise his role as the tempestuous Malcolm Winters are in for a rude awakening � the dude�s never coming back! But his character is: EW has learned exclusively that Darius McCrary � best known for playing Eddie Winslow on the long-running ABC sitcom Family Matters � has signed a multi-year deal to assume the role beginning Nov. 18. His debut will air on Dec. 29.

�We are thrilled to have the character of Malcolm back on Y&R,� according to a statement from Maria Bell, the drama�s co-executive producer/head writer. �Malcolm, Neil Winters� brother, has always been a catalyst to exciting stories. He�s coming back to town to see his brother and to reunite with his biological daughter, Lily Winters, as she fights for her life. Malcolm is a photographer � someone who lives on the edge and who always pushes the envelope.�

Though he left the sudser in 2005 to co-star in CBS� Criminal Minds, Moore once entertained the thought of briefly returning to the show that made him a star. His reps could not be reached for comment, but it seems obvious that Moore�s busy schedule (Minds is about to air its 100th episode) � combined with the fact that Bell wanted the Malcolm character back full-time - made it impossible for Moore to return.

McCrary will find a familiar face on the Y&R set; the Emmy-winning Bryton James (Devon) used to co-star as Richie Crawford on Family Matters, as well.

Jennifer Hudson to play Winnie Mandela in biopic

Jennifer Hudson is set to star in �Winnie,� a drama that casts her as the former wife of South Africa�s first black president, Nelson Mandela.

Hudson will play Winnie Mandela in a film that begins production May 30 in the South African locations of Johannesburg, Capt Town, Transkei and Robben Island, where the future president spent 18 of his 27 years in prison.

�Winnie� will be directed by Darrell J. Roodt, the veteran South African filmmaker whose 2006 film �Yesterday� was Africa�s Best Foreign Film nominee, and who also directed �Cry, The Beloved Country,� and �Sarafina!�

Andre Pieterse, Roodt and Paul L. Johnson wrote a script based on the Anne Marie du Preez Bezdrob biography �Winnie Mandela:A Life.� Picture is being made with South African and Canadian money, with Pieterse producing with Michael Mosca of Canada�s Equinoxe Films.

While Nelson Mandela � who�ll be played by Morgan Freeman in the Clint Eastwood-directed �Invictus� � is a universally sympathetic figure for his struggle against apartheid, his former wife is a far more complicated figure. She has been depicted as the mother and wife who was a steadfast supporter of her activist husband and who was jailed herself for campaigning for his release and fighting against apartheid. Her image was subsequently tarnished by association with a bodyguard who murdered a 14-year old alleged informer, and she was later convicted of fraud.

The filmmakers will tell the whole story, good and bad.

�I was compelled and moved when I read the script,� Hudson said. �Winnie Mandela is a complex and extraordinary woman and I�m honored to be the actress asked to portray her. This is a powerful part of history that should be told.�

Hudson, who is expected to sing the film�s theme song, won the Oscar for her screen debut in �Dreamgirls� and followed with �The Secret Life of Bees� and �Sex in the City.�

I highly recommend this show. It's Elvis talking with real musicians, playing together on the stage, singing each others songs.

They discuss the actual music, how certain songs wound up the way they did rather than their original interpretation. I saw Elvis with The Police (it's On Demand now). It was a great surprise and the hour flew by.

"Thor" has cast the Warriors Three!

We reported just yesterday morning that Marvel is preparing to shoot their next big comic book film Thorin January, with director Kenneth Branagh now ready to get the story of gods and warriors from another dimension underway. And with that has come a few last minute casting decisions.
Per a Variety article that has mysteriously disappeared off their site since it posted about an hour ago, Marvel has signed Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson and Tadanobu Asano to play The Warriors Three, a trio of Asgardian adventurers who fight alongside the Norse god Thor, who will be played by Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek).
Stuart Townsend, who recently wrote and directed the excellent political drama Battle in Seattle, which starred his fiancee Charlize Theron, is best known for playing the vampire Lestat in Queen of the Damned and starring alongside Ryan Reynolds in Chaos Theory. He is also a frequent voice cast contributor to Robot Chicken. Ray Stevenson broke out in a big way after starring in the HBO series Rome, going on to star as Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone. Tadanobu Asano has had a long-running career in Japan, with his most recognizable roles being in the imported films Mongol (2007) and The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi (2003).
The Warriors Three are comprised of Fandral, Hogun and Volstagg, three Asgardian warriors not based in Norse mythology. This casting negates previous rumors that the likes of Robert De Niro and Jude Law would be taking on these roles � ultimately giving relatively fresh faces to these characters. And as I�ve said many times before, that is something I support. Townsend is a solid actor, as is Stevenson, and Asano has shown himself to be more than capable of playing well in big action pieces. From where I�m sitting, this casting falls in line with much of the work that Branagh has already done on Thor � it is simply excellent.

The film, which will be released on July 23 of next year, stars Angelina as Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer accused of being a Russian spy - and who has to prove that someone else is the real traitor.
