His family knew he was a walking powder keg,but yet again we see if he is over 18 there is nothing parents can do-they are helpless. What an anguish for everyone involved.

It's the tragedy of highly intelligent Aspies who desperately want to be accepted by their peers but don't know how and don't understand why they are rejected. Some of them react like this guy, obviously helped by US non existent gun laws.
My SO comes from a family that's jam-packed with Aspies (or what everyone suspects as being Aspergers). Highly intelligent, awkward, and in some cases, "weird". None of them are violent. Of course, Aspies can be like everyone else and have violent tendencies, but I don't think it's the hallmark of being an aspie. Or is it? It seems like the family attorney is explaining away (or blaming) the attack on the kid having Aspergers. That's what bugs me. I can't imagine how difficult it is at times for these kids, but it does seem rare that they lash out so violently. I remember Aspergers being mentioned as one of the problems with the kid that went into Sandy Hook.

This kid may have been an aspie, but he had more of an issue of being an entitled little shit who had everything handed to him. BMW, $300 sunglasses, nice clothes, red carpet premieres, first class air trips, private planes, backstage passes, etc. And the gun laws certainly don't help. On CNN the anchors keeps saying how this is going to cause Americans to rethink gun laws. Bullshit. If nothing was changed after someone shot up an elementary school, it's never going to change.

It seems as though the parents had tried to get him help. Not sure how much, but they tried.

The parents even contacted the police. That's some serious concern and a rare move for a parent I would think.

Holy shit, twitchy, those posts! Very little creeps me out more than guys like this. The whole PUA is fucked up because these men basically believe they need to brainwash a woman to get with her. Anybody in their right mind should run far away from that. I don't believe that stuff even works, but these guys do and that's scary.

I have a family member, that I don't speak to, who reminds me of this guy. Said family member has been in jail for statutory rape, basically because the only ones who will get with him are teens. It is one of the most predatory things I've ever seen...trying to get with somebody who has no opinions and life experience, because grown and wise women know you are a straight-up sociopath.

I hate to say it and it breaks my heart to think this way, but I am thankful that this kid was killed, too. Nobody deserved to be his victim ever again. I'm sorry, but Asperger's doesn't make you kill people for not being accepted. He had mental health issues and likely a legit personality disorder, imo. Men like this have no place in society.

yeah i don't think this can single-handedly be blamed on his aspergers. while i'm sure it didn't help and made it extra hard for him to connect with people socially, there's never a single cause for these things. it's probably a combination of easy access to weapons, years of building rage and frustration, aspergers, affluenza, parents who probably meant well but failed utterly (giving him money, cars, etc. instead of addressing his issues from an early age, rather than waiting until it was too late) and good old fashioned sexism and the belief that as a man, no matter how average, creepy, and assholeish, he is 'entitled' to not just any girl, but a hot chick, and anything less is unacceptable.

I just read his manifesto. He planned on killing his baby brother, because the baby brother would grow up to be popular and get girls..

I don't think it's aspergers at all. This guy was psychotic and delusional. He has much more in common with Eric Harris and the kid who shot up va tech.

if you read what people who knew him said, he had been self isolating for years, inventing some kind of twisted fantasy that his psychosis was a product of his inability to relate to women - when it was exactly the reverse.

He stabbed three people to death first before he went on his shooting spree.

Aspies are no more prone to violence or psychosis than anyone else. Aspergers Syndrome isn't a mental illness, it's more a personality type and they are born that way. My Aspie daughter has NEVER shown any violent or antisocial behaviour, quite the opposite in fact. This guy obviously had a very disturbed, dangerous mind but you can't blame that on the AS.

    I like "affluenza" BTW.

Just goes to show that a killer will kill. Gun or no. (And I'm for better gun control, but people still die).

I don't know what to make of this, but some people are saying there might have been repressed homosexuality at play here because in one of his videos he insists "I'm attracted to girls" many times seemingly more to himself than to his audience.

I agree, the way he wrote about male on female sex as a disgusting act, made me think the exact same thing.

The goal of eradicating all murders is unrealistic, but I'm all for making it as hard as possible to murder many people quickly and efficiently, which is what guns do. The gun issue in the States is much more nuanced and complicated than can be solved just saying "get rid of all guns" but the availability of them is absolutely absurd.

That pick up artist shit makes me want to vomit.

Good point on the affluenza and suspected overindulging by the parents, sput. I'm sensing that, too.

The howling and wailing about gun control will fade away in a few days like it always does. While the US grants it's citizens, including nutters, the moral, legal and civil right to own a gun nothing will change and this will happen again and again. It's the price of freedom!
