Dunno, but I think we can assume automatic Kalashnikov assault rifles aren't.

    Meanwhile, la republique strikes back

    Sky News ‏@SkyNews
France has conducted airstrikes on the IS-held Syrian city of Raqqa, involving ten fighter jets dropping 20 bombs

    Ohhhh, that'll learn 'em.

Beating ISIS in Syria and Iraq is going to require patience. They actually want our ground troops there for their biblical "battle of the civilizations" to partly come to fruition. So, the key will be to keep helping the Kurds to stop and roll back ISIS gains. Also, a lot of people who have moved to ISIS territory have become disillusioned that it is not the Islamic land of milk and honey and have left, or tried to leave. For them to lose territory at all hugely undermines their basis for legitimacy. Al Qaeda can function as a stateless terrorist group, but ISIS cannot.

Official death toll 132 now, and still expected to rise.

So nuke 'em. No "boots on the ground" necessary. Obama doesn't have the balls to do it, but I bet Putin does, especially after the recent bomb on a civilian Russian aircraft over Egypt.

That's probably the topic of the discussion that Obama and Putin had today.

If you nuke them, you run into three problems:

    1. Undermining everything we have tried to do under international nuclear agreements.
    2. Create absolutely massive civilian casualties, since ISIS troops are surrounded by women and children (a lot of them there unwillingly, like Yazidis).
    3. Not wipe out enough of ISIS. Their troops (even though there aren't that many) are spread across a huge and diffuse amount of territory that straddles Iraq and Syria.

A nuclear weapon can't stop ideology. ISIS has roots all over the world now, so reducing Syria to rubble will just see them pop up again in Libya, Nigeria, Afghanistan or even the Caucasus. And no way is Putin going to be the one to dip into the nukes with the interests that Russia has in Syria.

I know it's not practical and I worry about Iran's possible involvement now they almost certainly have nuclear weapons too (thanks Obama, you're a star). But some firm, decisive and strong action has to be taken which these savages will understand. Yes, it will mean military and civilian casualties, probably a lot of them, but it requires some major firepower which probably means a U.S./Russia alliance with the common cause of wiping these assholes out. But we see that there are now plenty of IS jihadis lurking among the refugees flooding into Europe. The Syrian "refugee" Paris terrorist passed through 7 European countries in 3 weeks BTW. And it's not necessarily these new arrivals we should worry about, it's their subsequent native born children and grandchildren. And these families have a LOT of children. And remember the Boston Marathon bombers? Different nationality, same religious agenda. Nowhere is "safe".

Islam needs a Reformation and Enlightenment to bring it kicking and screaming away from the 7th century and into the 21st. The fractured "leadership" can do that if they choose to but it doesn't suit their agenda of world jihad and submission to Allah. Even the new multiculti politically progressive lefty pope says this is the start of WW3. Everyone always thought that the world would destroy itself over Left/Right political ideology and yet here we are facing a war based on our old friend religion.

And in addition: don't forget they have cells everywhere, even in Europe. There were several arrests in Belgium where some of the Paris terrorists were from and where these attacks were probably planned.
