The tears are self-pity, not remorse. Hes a nasty piece of work.

With no jury to convince the prosecution/defence counsel will have to impress only the judge and based on what I've seen the defence is winning. Oscars drama skills in the dock don't fool anyone but his lawyer is very commanding and persuasive. The prosecutor seems unable to frame his questions clearly, is repetitive, disorganised and sometimes doesn't have the necessary documentary evidence/exhibits to hand (his minions should get a bollocking for that).

However, he's also picking some big holes in OPs story so let's hope he doesn't blow it by irritating the judge too much.

He's like a tap today, because Nel is going full throttle.

Pistorius remembers screaming for help as loudly as he could on the balcony. Nel asks how Pistorius could unlock and open the sliding doors with a cocked gun in his right hand. Nel asks why Pistorius is getting emotional when he is being asked about the cocked gun. "You're not using your emotional state to escape?" asks Nel.

I'd hate to have that man question me even if it was about a trip to the store.

I've been wondering...in South African law is the accused required to testify? Many if not most US attorneys would not put Oscar P on the stand because he wouldn't look good under cross-examination.

Not sure. Most systems allow accused the option to testify or not but obviously it's up to their counsel to advise whether it's a good idea. It's always a bit of a gamble whichever they decide to do.

I watched his cross exam being wound up after 7 days in the dock where he got quite a grilling. His story was very inconsistent and illogical in places. Based on what I saw/heard I'm even more certain he knew damn well Reeva was in the WC and he basically went into a fit of rage and opened fire. I'm still a bit worried about the extremely passive judge. There were a few occasions where she didn't seem to be following what was being said at all. But maybe SA judges are required to just sit and listen. I think this could go either way.

Is that so? Yeah, that's pretty damning. Though I'm sure they can argue that she slipped in there with her phone to make a phone call that she didn't want him to overhear.

oh her cell phone was in there? Very damning. Although I've been known to leave mine in various places in the house. But still.

I'm worried about the judge too. Last week, the prosecutor said something to Oscar like, he was just getting emotional for show or because he didn't want to answer. The judge interjected that he'd been emotional throughout. I thought it was strange for the judge to chime in like that.

I dunno - I know a LOT of young women who take their effing phones everywhere, including the toilet. It's almost a reflex "I must have my phone with me at all times, someone might call/txt and it will be VERY important".

I take my phone with me to the toilet when I'm at work. That's more so I can kill more time away from my desk though. In the middle of the night I wouldn't take it with me, unless I wanted to contact somebody or read a message or something.

I use mine as a torch sometimes if I don't want to turn the light on and wake myself up completely. Who knows, I don't know that her phone being with her really speaks to his guilt or lack thereof. The inconsistencies in his story do that for him.
