So sad. I'm glad that Patrick is doing better, and I think I'd like to hear a story about the disgusting woman who did this to him having the exact same thing done to her. Just minus the happy ending. She can stay in the trash chute.

Someone should stick 4chan on that cunt, they'll at least make her life miserable for awhile.

Vet hospital administrator Patricia Smillie-Scavelli enjoys some time with Patrick in April. He is known as a "people dog" there.

Patrick the dog, who has attracted plenty of media attention and a following across the country—including some celebrities—is making great strides towards recovery, according to those who are caring for him.
“Right now, his progress is good,” said Bruce Sanchez, the director of the Association of the Humane Societies of Monmouth County (AHSMC) in Tinton Falls. Sanchez said that Patrick’s weight has stabilized at around 39 pounds from the emaciated 20 pounds when he was found starved and dumped at the bottom of a garbage chute in Newark.

While Patrick’s progress is looking up, the fate of the person who allegedly abused the pit bull is uncertain and may be determined on Friday, May 6. That’s when Kisha Curtis is expected to appear in a courtroom in Newark to face charges relating to alleged abuse of Patrick.
Detractors have indicated on Facebook and the Internet that they plan on showing up outside the courthouse, en masse, to call attention to animal cruelty.
As for Patrick: “He’s doing great, doing absolutely wonderfully,” according to his physical therapist Susan Davis who donates her time to work with the dog. While Patrick still has "deficits," including weakness and muscle atrophy in his left hind leg, therapy should help to correct it, said Davis.
Davis, who is the owner of joycare onsite, LLC, has been teaching Patrick how to walk on a leash and his "cadence" has begun to improve and gain speed. “He has so much more energy during the therapy sessions," said Davis. "His endurance is increasing and his strength.”

Patch received the following statement from Pat Smilie-Scavelli, director and founder of Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls where Patrick is recuperating: “Because of legal court proceedings, all we can say is he is doing great and is continuing to improve.” She did not expand on what court proceedings she was referring to.
Patrick's media coverage has led to talk of Patrick’s Law, which calls for tougher laws throughout the country to punish animal abusers. Then there is the possibility of a Patrick stamp, which Sanchez said has been proposed. Additionally, numerous YouTube videos and even Facebook pages are devoted to the Miracle Dog.
Sanchez said he has received over 4,000 applications for Patrick’s adoption, but he indicated that there are many dogs similar to Patrick looking for homes. He said the humane society in Monmouth County has five dogs who resemble Patrick awaiting adoption.
“Patrick is so trusting, playful—he’s an absolute darling,” Davis said.

Custody fight emerges over abused pit bull Patrick found in Newark trash chute

Patrick was starved, then thrown down a trash chute of a Newark high-rise apartment and found by a maintenance worker when the trash bag suddenly moved. Animal control was alerted and took the dog to the Garden State Veterinary Specialists for emergency care. Patrick is currently 20 pounds but should weigh double that, doctors have said. NEWARK — The feel-good story of a starving pit bull rescued from an apartment building trash chute in Newark has turned into a three-sided tug-of-war over custody of the popular pooch.
In a 40-page motion filed in state Superior Court on Wednesday, the Associated Humane Societies claims it has legal ownership of Patrick, named because he was found the day before St. Patrick's Day.
The motion seeks to overturn a judge's order signed last month that decreed the dog would remain at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls while a criminal abandonment case proceeds against a Newark woman. Kisha Curtis is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning.
The city of Newark has opposed the motion, and claims its contract with AHS doesn't give the association custody of the dog.
In the middle of all the hubbub is Patrick, a rust-colored pit bull mix who was found emaciated and unable to stand or walk, and covered with sores and parts of skin hanging off him.
He underwent weeks of emergency measures at the hospital that included a transfusion of three pints of dog blood, a special diet, medicine and physical therapy and has slowly begun to recover.
He has become an international celebrity during that time, with his own Facebook page and thousands of letters from supporters around the globe. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has received more than 3,000 letters, according to a spokeswoman.
Some of that already is being muted by the custody battle. Patricia Smillie-Scavelli, the hospital administrator monitoring Patrick's progress, said she has taken down the Facebook page because of the dispute.
"I'm kind of just holding the dog here," she said Thursday. "I'm in the middle."
In its motion, the AHS claims the original order by state Superior Court Judge Joseph Cassini on April 26 was flawed because AHS wasn't notified. It also claims that under its animal control contract with the city, AHS has legal right to the dog because it took him initially to its Newark shelter before deciding to move him to the Tinton Falls hospital.
"Patrick is no different than any other stray or abandoned picked up in Newark or any other city — once he was rescued by AHS, he became the property of AHS," the motion reads. "AHS did not surrender possession or control of Patrick, but merely turned the dog over to GSVS for treatment, with the expectation that Patrick would be returned to AHS once his medical condition improved and he was able to be released."
The city of Newark is opposing the motion and feels the dog should remain at the hospital until he is ready to be adopted.
"It's the city's position that it is not in Patrick's best interests for him to be turned over to Associated, and we have notified both Associated and the court of that fact," said Adam Zipkin, chief of staff in the city's department of economic and housing development and a project manager for a proposed animal shelter in the city.
AHS wants to move Patrick to Popcorn Park Zoo in Forked River, a facility that has been home to abused and neglected animals and also provides veterinary services.
An attorney representing AHS could not be reached by phone Thursday evening.

I'm guessing the Humane Society wants custody because there's money to be made from him.

and the retards at the Humane Society have lost their attempt to take him away from the vets
Patrick the Miracle Dog's Welfare Not at Risk, Judge Rules

A recent court order reiterated a previous ruling that Patrick the Miracle Dog should stay at a veterinary hospital, despite claims that the pit bull’s health and welfare are at risk.
    By|Mary Lou Byrd June 29, 2011

Once again, a judge has ordered that Patrick the Miracle Dog should stay at Garden State Veterinary Specialists until the case against his accused abuser is resolved. This second order also disputed the Associated Humane Societies’ claim that the dog's welfare is at risk at the veterinary hospital.
Despite a previous judge’s order in early June that Patrick the Miracle Dog stay at the GSVS, AHS filed a notice of appeal and motion for emergent relief last week to have Patrick moved to AHS.

On June 21, AHS filed its notice with the Superior Court of New Jersey Appellate Division. According to the court documents, AHS claimed that Patrick was being held at the veterinary hospital that lacked “essential services and conditions to rehabilitate the animal.”

In addition, AHS claimed that “requiring the animal to improperly remain at the veterinary hospital, it will result in a construction adoption as a staff member of the hospital wants to keep the dog permanently.”

Judge Clarkson S. Fisher, Jr. ruled on June 23 that Patrick should stay at GSVS until the criminal case against the pit bull’s accused abuser is over. In addition, Fisher said in the court order that Patrick’s welfare is not at risk at the GSVS, as AHS claimed.

“The record is devoid of evidence even suggesting this dog’s health or welfare are at risk in the hospital where its condition has improved,” the judge wrote.

The pit bull was discovered on St. Patrick's Day in Newark in a trash bag that had been dumped down an apartment garbage chute and has become a poster pet for animal welfare activists.

Since Patrick is evidence in the case against Kisha Curtis, his alleged abuser, Fisher wrote that the Essex County prosecutor is in lawful possession of the dog until the charges against Curtis are resolved. Additionally, according to Judge Fisher, the prosecutor is not “wrongfully depriving AHS of any interest it might have in the dog.”

GSVS Attorney Gene R. Korf of Korf & Rosenblatt had no comment when contacted by Patch. The attorney representing AHS, Colleen Flynn Cyphers of Levin Cyphers, did not respond to Patch’s request for comment.

The custody battle over Patrick may be far from over once Curtis’ case is resolved. Both GSVS and AHS have both laid claims to Patrick, and a series of legal motions have been filed since April. It has been a contentious custody battle, with tens of thousands of worldwide followers. Patrick has received enormous media attention, and many postings on the internet, Twitter, Facebook and blogs have gone viral.

The judge gave insight into what may occur to Patrick if Curtis is found guilty of one the animal cruelty offenses and the judge finds Curtis’ possession of Patrick poses a risk to the pit bull’s welfare.

“The judge may adjudge the dog, and any other animal owned or possessed by Curtis, forefeited, and the judge may specify an appropriate disposition for any animal so forfeited.” Certified animal control officers and agents of the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals may file a petition for forfeiture of Patrick, if Curtis is found guilty, according to the court order.

While Patrick’s ultimate fate awaits the criminal case resolution, the custody battle so far—that has been quite litigious—may continue over the abused pit bull who has won over the hearts of many.

It's hard to believe this is the same Patrick! What an amazing recovery. On a bitchy note - I hope the publicity from this story has brought nothing but pain and misery on the woman who dumped him.
