IMO, here in NYC you need to worry about the Albanians more than any other group of mob criminals.

That being said, my neighbor used to be Vinny "Vinny Gorgeous" Basicano's brother. Vinny Gorgeous was head of the Bonanno family. I sure as shit never complained about the neighbors! They were a shifty group of people too, moved out at 2AM on a Tuesday.

Clearly it appears the Italian American mob is but a shadow of its former glory days in America, when they had politicians and cops aplenty in their pockets.

I wouldn't entirely count them out, they still do exist but nothing like the 'good old' days. I remember reading about John Gotti and how he had to approach the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang to get protection in exchange for knowledge about street rackets.

In California the ones to worry about are the prison gangs like the Mexican Mafia in southern california. Now those guys are truly scary, they have all the street gangs on lock and at their beck and call. They brought the Mongols motorcycle gang to their knees, and we know how scary those guys are.

The Italian mafia is still running NYC, Philly and Chicago. They are very connected to the Hell's Angels and Pagans and run the drug and prostitution rings.

It's not random at all. There's a huge Albanian underworld here in NY, as there is throughout much of Europe. Big in sex and drug trafficking.

There was a Law & Order: SVU episode that dealt with an Albanian prostitution ring IIRC.

I've only met one Albanian in my life and I've been to NY countless times. I didnt realize there was enough of them in New York for them to hold some power in the criminal world.

The Bronx has a huge population of Albanians, specifically the Pelham Parkway area.

"What we have here might be considered a sixth crime family," after the five Mafia organizations — Bonanno, Colombo, Gambino, Genovese and Lucchese — said Fred Snelling, head of the FBI's criminal division in New York.[4]

8.5 million people live here. I'm sure you haven't been able to meet them all on your countless visits.
