All the while, his wounded girlfriend was dragging their children to safety. She said something to the effect of, "I don't care if I fall down dead, just get my babies out of here."

And who said women were the weaker sex????

After the shock wears off, she might find it hard to forgive him.

Yeah, I don't know how I'd react either, but if I had done that I sure as hell wouldn't tell anybody about it if I could help it.

This whole story makes me crazy. I am anxious to learn more about the gunman.

I will judge and say I think it's terrible that parents took a toddler and an infant to a midnight movie and the same for the poor little 6 year old who was killed. She should have been safely in her bead at home. This movie is PG-13, is known for violence and for being very loud. I know it's expensive to get a sitter but I will never understand parents who put their own selfish needs in front of their children.

source: Couple in Colo. Theater Shooting Escape With Baby and Toddler in Tow - Yahoo! News
I wish the article had mentioned that while the boyfriend ran outside, a stranger named Jarell Brooks stepped up and helped this woman and her two young kids out the theater. He got shot helping her (he survived):

Jarell Brooks: Theater Shooting Hero Helped Mom... | Gather

A 19-year-old man stepped up when he saw a young mother and her children in danger the night of the Batman premier theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado. Jarell Brooks is by all accounts a hero, but he doesn't want you to think of him that way. However, he very possibly saved three lives early Friday morning, and for that, he deserves the highest praise one can get.Brooks and Patricia Legarreta, the woman whose life he saved, reunited on Good Morning America yesterday to talk about their experiences. Legarreta said she doesn't remember everything that happened but is aware that without Brooks, she and her children would not be alive today.

Brooks said that he didn't know that James Eagan Holmes had entered the theater until he saw and heard the gunshots because he was just six rows from back of the theater. He obviously didn't realize that Legarreta's boyfriend (now fiancé), Jamie Rohrs, had run out after leaving four-month-old Ethan on the floor after panicking. All he saw during the chaos and the smoke was a woman struggling to get her scared children out of harm's way.

Legarreta's four-year-old daughter, Azeria, was asleep when the shooting began, so when she woke up, she was disoriented. She fell in the process of trying to escape because of that, and Legarreta described tearfully how she did what she could to get her out. "Just blocking her, shoving her, just making sure she's not getting hurt," she said, obviously distraught and shaken at the thought of how close she came to losing her children that night.

Brooks was on his way out the door and was at the end of the aisle when he saw her. "My kids!" she yelled, and the teenager knew what he had to do.

"My goal was to get this family out, without getting hit myself. I managed to do one." Both he and Legarreta were hit by the gunman's bullets.

Meanwhile, Jamie Rohrs, Legarretas' boyfriend, was nowhere to be found. He fled the scene after hiding the baby under a seat near his girlfriend after jumping over the balcony and running around. He told TV cameras that when Ethan began crying, his first thought was that the gunman would come and get him, so he put his child on the floor and left the three people he loves the most to be saved by a total and complete stranger.
Jarell Brooks is a true hero. He did the right thing, risked his life to save someone else's and he should be commended for it. Like all of the victims, he is struggling with the reality of what happened and how close he came to dying that night.

"I'm not the kind of person who would let them be in that situation and me selfishly trying to get myself out of the equation," he told TV reporters, "All she's trying to do is protect her kids, so I felt like if I could get her out, then maybe, I would have gotten out maybe I wouldn't, as long as I knew she was OK I was alright."

Her boyfriend had jumped in a car after fleeing the chaos, supposedly to drive back there to pick them up to take them to the hospital, according to a person named Jesse Rohrs, who identified himself as his brother. However, that story simply doesn't wash because Rohrs had left the building before she got injured. In one comment on a previous story, Jesse said, "He went to get the truck to take her to the hospital."

The question here is, why leave her side to begin with? Why leave his family to go running outside to get the truck if she wasn't even injured at the time he left? She did not become injured until Brooks had come to her aid and both got hit near the door.

In the heat of the moment, Patricia Legarreta depended on a total stranger to save her life during a fatal theater shooting, and not the man she now intends to marry.

Jarell Brooks, the world commends you for your selfless bravery.

I can't believe he did that. Maybe shock and confusion/being disoriented would explain why he ended up outside or separated from his kid but he DROVE away. Coward. I think many or most people would run into a burning building to save their kid.

In interviews, he's crying like a child. I'm trying not to judge him but everything he says so self-centered. He's only concerned that he would be killed (one reason he left his 4 month old on the floor--he said the crying baby would attract attention, resulting in himself being killed.)

What kind of fuckery is that? I know damn well my father would protect his family until the last breath left his body -- and if he didn't, there'd be hell to pay with my mom. She wouldn't have decided to marry man that left his baby on the floor to be trampled or shot in order to save his own ass.

Can you tell this has me angry?

I've decided to stop watching the news -- I'm feeling almost as sad as I did after 9/11.

Praying for peace for everyone involved.

    2. About the police telling them to leave her while she was still alive? I get it, but I don't get it. I hope they did try to get medical personnel in quickly after that first assessment: it wasn't a recovery yet, but a rescue if somebody is still alive, no matter how critical.
    3. Isn't it amazing how most of these right wing bible belt people are so ready to condemn, yet the majority of them will never give up their guns. Idiots.
As a responsible gun owner I can condemn this crime without giving up my gun. What does one have to do with the other and who is the idiot and why?

This. Dumb phuck leaves the GF and kids in the middle of a rampage, while he's cruising home. Cowardly bastard probably stopped for ice cream on the way to the house.

And the only reason he came back is because the GF called him! She was worried about not seeing him and was trying to find him. And of course, he had taken their cell phone with him, so she had to find one to call him.

Ol' boy would be pissing blood when I got finished with him. I hope he watches his famewhore interviews, then crawls into a hole and wets himself from the shame of it all.

Exactly! I saw his whining ass on TV last night too and was disgusted. I hope the woman doesn't marry him. Like someone said earlier, after the shock wears off, maybe she'll realize what a POS he is.

I mean, protecting your children is INSTINCT! It's a primal, sub-conscious thing. This dude ain't got it.

Chilling parallel between shooting, 'Dark Knight' comic

    By AJ Willingham

    NEED TO KNOW
    • 1986 Batman graphic novel depicts theater shooting
    • The plot of the comic is unrelated to the plot of the movie

As the horrific details of the shooting at a Colorado theater continue to emerge, some are noticing a parallel between the incident and a page from "The Dark Knight Returns," a series of four comic books, originally published as a graphic novel written and drawn by Frank Miller.
The comic book includes a scene where a troubled young man shoots an audience inside a darkened theater. The character, named Arnold Crimp, is shown buying a movie ticket, entering a theater, and brandishing a gun. The last panel of the page states that three were slain in a "Batman inspired porn theater shootout." According to the book, which HLN has obtained, Crimp thinks he hears satanic messages in a song.
The panel depicts a relatively minor moment in the novel. Though it is clear a shooting takes place, no violence is portrayed and the event is used to illustrate other conflicts in the novel rather than to serve as a central plot point.
SEE THE COMIC BOOK PAGE HERE
The "Dark Knight Returns" series also includes a scene where Bruce Wayne recalls the night when his parents were murdered outside of a movie theater. In other adaptations of the "Batman" story, the movie theater reference is changed to a live theater, or an opera house.
As with many comics franchises, there can be many plots and timelines attributed to one character. "The Dark Knight Returns" comic takes place when Bruce Wayne (Batman) is older, and its plot is not the same as the plot of the current movie, "The Dark Knight Rises."

The idiots are the one's who are holding the Bible in one hand and quoting from it from one side of their mouth, while toting a gun in the other hand and often doing and saying not so holy things from the other side of their mouth.

chilling parallel? what is this sensationalist bullshit? it's not a chilling parallel, maybe the dude read the comic and decide to shoot people up at the screening, not because he'd read it in the comic but because he's a fucking killer. can't wait for more stories like this blaming batman and not the fact that he could legally amass such an arsenal for not a lot of money and without arousing any suspicions.

Yeah well I can't help but judge. He just panicked and ran, left them for dead. I mean panic and fear is understandable, but why take the extra steps to drive away? He didn't stay, not even to hide to see if he could sneak in to save his babies. That's messed up.
