    I also feel for the surviving child. The survivor's guilt has to be unbearable, especially as she grows up and realizes what happened.

    I'm happy for them.

    It can be helpful in healing. Close friends of my mother's lost a daughter when we were kids. The mom was in therapy, and her Dr recommended they have another child. They did.
    All of God's children are not beautiful. Most of God's children are, in fact, barely presentable.

    My son has a soccer teammate. It was sometime around last year that his younger sister was born. I remember asking something like, "So, this is Jason's first sibling?" And they said, "No." And kind of hinted that his other sibling had died. It was really weird, because you just have no way of knowing that the conversation is going to take that turn. Anyway, the new sister is a great kid, and the parents are awesome and enthusiastic and do not look like they are living under a cloud.
