Ice cream truck driver charged with DUI in Pasco

NEW PORT RICHEY - An ice cream truck driver was charged with DUI on Monday after his truck nearly struck a child, a report states.

Ronald C. Purdy, 49, of 4805 Springside Drive, was released on his own recognizance Tuesday.

A New Port Richey Police Department officer was patrolling Candice Lane when a citizen told him about the truck nearly hitting the child. The officer saw the truck in the middle of the road with the engine running, according to the report.

Purdy performed poorly on field sobriety exercises. His blood-alcohol level was tested and found to be 0.227 percent. Florida law presumes a driver intoxicated at 0.08 percent. Two bottles of whiskey both partially empty were found inside the truck next to the driver's seat.

I would not have hired this scary looking dude to be an Ice Cream Truck driver ffs. Looks like he was just released from the big house.
