there are some good laptop bags in backpack form. Smart to invest on one of them as a schoolbag.

I bought an Acer two years ago and vertical lines appeared on the screen a few weeks after the one year guarantee ran out, the power switch is defective, the battery life lasts less than an hour and hard disk trouble started near the two years mark

I have a Toshiba Satellite M30 SE and it's geared towards gaming/entertainment etc. It's pretty great, widescreen as well as a shiny screen (not like the dull ones laptops used to be made with). I use it for all my school work - I'm in university - as well as playing games, watching movies etc. It's really good and can handle Photoshop no prob. My boyfriend has the companion computer the non special edition version and his works great too! I highly recommend the computer and pretty well any Toshiba. I've had 2 to date but my first got stolen from my apartment a few years ago so I got this one as a replacement. Good luck!

What are these SVZ? I asked the husband who usually knows all things IT but he hasn't heard of these. Do you have a link that I can give him?

All that sounds depressingly familiar. You didn't buy it second hand from a certain school in Melbourne did you

Hi A*O We have a Targus laptop backpack for our laptop. It has lots of pockets and doesn't get too heavy even when it is full. It has been good so far with the travel we have done OS. May have to rethink what we will do on the next trip with all the new onboard luggage rules now. I have no complaints about a Toshiba Satellite laptop. It has gone around the world, food and drink spilt on it and treated like crap but its still running, had it since '02.

^^Thanks SVZ. That's what the husband has on his laptop. He says it works well for most things but for high level processing games like Everquest II it isn't so good and causes lag, even though he has 512 MB graphics card.

Oh, and he says you wouldn't go far wrong with a Dell for your daughter A*O.

^^ Lil, your husband might have to set the "affinity" (in the task manager) to 1 or 2 (either, doesn't matter), before playing a game like EQ. With some processes, it's better to just use the one processor, and that's how he would do it. My BF has to do the same with his desktop.
