No CD/DVD drive is ridiculous. People who get this for bragging rights will just seem like massive tools because they'll need either a whole other (real) computer, or a slew of external hardware.

Too thin, actually. I'd be terrified of breaking it.

    Besides, I'm a PC fan.

I went to visit the Apple store yesterday to see the Air in real life. It is _so_ thin, but I wish it was a better machine. I basically waited months and months for nothing because it's sort of sub-par for what it is. Nearly $2000 dollars later, and it only had the 80 gb storage. I have to keep telling myself I don't need this and I only want it bc it's so sexily thin.

I am going to get a regular black macbook instead I think.

Is it made of reinforced titanium? No? Then I think this thing will break easily if it's that thin. At some point thinness becomes brittleness, doesn't it? Especially if it's made out of freakin' aluminum!

Plus I really find it an inconvenience that it not only has no disk drive, you have to buy it separately after shelling out $1800. No.

It apparently doesn't NEED a disk drive.. you read the disc on your regular puter and beam the contents to the Macbook Air. It does everything wirelessly or something.

I think this is a good idea for business people only. If you go to a lot of meetings and don't require a disk drive in your computer then it's probably great. I can't see the practical use for a college student or a family.

^^ what Grimm said, it's suppose to be a really easy feature. Not sure if you can go from a PC to the MacBook Air or if it has to be within the Mac family.

I have a co-worker who is getting one so I'll get a better idea of it soon enough.

Also, give it a year and it'll somehow have USB ports, a cd drive and everything else once Mac figures out how to make them smaller LOL

the "air" is too thin for me, and i hate glossy screens. but i do love mac computers. my 12" powerbook is my baby. she's really thin and has a disc drive and all the ports i need. i wish they'd remake it so i can get a new one.

I heard the funniest thing yesterday, walking to the Tower area to study:

"Dude, my left tit weighs more than that Apple Air thing"

My co-worker got his MacBook Air yesterday. I have to say it's pretty cool in person. I hadn't gone to the Apple Store at the local mall to check it out so it was my first viewing.

It's so tiny and lightweight. There are 2 USB ports in it, they flip down from inside the machine. Another feature that I thought was pretty neat is that it auto-dims based on the light in the room you are in. If you were in a dark conference room watching a power point presentation it would dim the screen and then light up the keys. I'm still curious to see how easy it is to use w/ out the drives in it and how good the bluetooth is in it.
