Never had that happen! Maddening.
I am very anal about what i look at on my computer. I have also 'trained' my 15 yr old to be the same way. She's pretty good about it, however i think she may have strayed a bit. I've been getting something like pop ups, but they take up the entire screen, basically opening a new window each time. i have a pop up blocker installed through my google tool bar. i went into my tools and cleared out which pop ups were supposed to be allowed (basically there's nothing there) i have Firefox, and have never had a problem, until today. anyone have any ideas what this is,and how i stop it? i dont have MacAfee, i have AVG virus protector. HELP?!

Hmm, could be spyware. You should try Spybot. Since it's free. Try it out and see if it catches anything
The home of Spybot-S&D!
i'll try it! one thing i noticed is that when the pop up opens it opens in IE not firefox.

Get Spybot, and Avast they are 2 great tools and free!
k i ran the spybot, and as soon as i was done, up popped a pop up. its not a small one either, its full screen. i'll try Avast now. its very frustrating!

New Trojan virus out there. What you describe sounds like what I've heard others tell. Virtumondo or something like it. Bitch to get rid of.
Google it and you'll see what I mean.

i did both of the spyware stuff, and one of the things it found was Virtumondo. i did google it, and its adware but not a virus. one thing i noticed it said was this:
This is not a virus or trojan. It is an application that generates extra pop-up ads while using Internet Explorer.
i use firefox.

It sounds like it could be that new virus. People I know of who have come down with it use Firefox as well. And basically started having the same issue you described with their browsers, along with running slow as fuck. I'd thought it was a system-hogging trojan that's a bitch to get rid of based on what I've heard, but I could be wrong. Did you Google more than one site describing?
My brother is my geek consultant on these matters, cause I'm certainly no expert. But I hear him describe lots of crazy stuff and the huge hassle it sometimes is to get rid of. The one time he had a problem he admitted was (sure enough) when he bought a bootleg program of something he wanted trying to save some money.

He recommended Avast for antivirus, but I don't know if that gets rid of entirely if already infected. That CCleaner might help.
I'm freaked about this one because no one seems to know how they got it.

Avast is good if it is indeed Virtumondo. But even if that doesn't remove it you can try this here
How-to remove Winfixer, Virtumonde, Msevents, Trojan.vundo, ATLDistrib
