Default Nobody reads this forum but anyway - mobile phone problem

I just bought a new phone because the old one died. For various reasons I changed networks too and was told I could transfer my "old" number to the new SIM card and save a lot of hassle letting everyone know I had a new number.

The number hasn't transferred, although the other info on that SIM card has (names, etc).

So I called the "new" network people and told them the number hasn't transferred. They checked and said that for some reason the number was disabled and I should call the previous provider. I did and they said the number was still active and could be transfered to the new network.

12 hours later the number still hasn't transferred and the "old" phone/SIM rings when I dial the number.

Both providers are blaming the other for the problem. Suggestions please? (And please, this isn't an excuse for another mobile phone trollfest thread OK?)

Keep trying. Ask to speak to a supervisor at both. Actually,I would start with the new one. Keep going up the chain until someone listens.

I thought it took a few days to transfer a number? Give it another couple of days or just keep contacting them to see what's happening.

I thought it could take up to 3 days to transfer a number?

They told me "3 to 12 hours". They lied. I'll give it until after the weekend. Thanks for the info.

ACMA - Everything you need to know about Mobile Number Portability

Changes requested outside normal business hours (Monday to Saturday) will be completed at the start of the next business day. Also, transferring multiple numbers may take longer.

Mystery solved! The airhead in the store transposed a couple of the digits in the number when she put it into the computer. Instead of 0403 she typed 0430. Duh. I now have to go back to the store and do the whole thing all over again.

Can you wrangle a few extra hours of free minutes as a consolation prize if you call the company to complain?

In the UK it can take up to 15 days to transfer, but usually is a lot faster (due to Oftel rulings) Sometime one needs a PAC code too..... but not always.

If you had to set up a divert while the number was being transfered, you could/should claim against the shop/carrier because you might have a) had to pay for the calls once they divert from your old number and b) wouldn't have had to pay for extra days if they'd got the number right.

Update: Just went back to the store and told the bimboid she had put the wrong number into the computer. She wasn't having any of it so I flounced out to the store next door and the lady in there was helpful, efficient and got things sorted in less than 5 minutes. She also told me that I'd paid to have my phone unlocked when I shouldn't have been AND that the Pay As You Go plan the bimboid sold me is the wrong one. More expensive too, natch.

It's partly my own fault for being such a technotard but even so FUCK YOU Vodafone!
