    Default Blu Ray DVD

I keep seeing that in commercials for new DVD's that are being released, they always say they are also available on Blu Ray disc. It has also been reported that Warner Bros. has decided to release all it's movies on Blu Ray dvd only. My understanding is that you need a Blu Ray player to view these movies, thay can't be played on a regular DVD player. Am I correct in this assumption? Given that DVD players are so inexpensive these days, I'd hate the idea of having to buy another type of player just for certain movies.

Well, you could discourage their necessity by not buying one.

If they don't make money, they'll stop (think Beta vs. VHS in the 80's).

Blue ray discs will only work on blue ray players.

Blue ray is pretty much going to win over HD-DVD (kinda like VHS won over BETA back in the day)

Once that happens, the price of players and blueray dvd's will come down. Right now it's a specialty item.

I agree Blueray is going to win over HD-DVD. They've got Warner Bros. and Disney on board already.

We gave my in-laws one for Christmas. I'll have to ask them how they like it.

They look good but not really good enough to justify the cost IMO. The Blu Ray discs will also play on the Playstation 3.

uM, basically it's a really high definition picture.. like.. it's so crispy it almost seems 3-D on the screen.

Of course, if you get a blueray player, you need to get the accompanying high def tv to go with it.. regular tv's don't do high def.

I live with a techno geek. We have high def everything. We use the PS3 to watch Blue Ray dvd's. The good thing is that it's easier to get the movie you like at Blockbuster because not many people are using Blue ray yet.

Personally, I don't think all this high def stuff is worth the price, not monetarily or of our planets resources (used to make 'em) and space needed to dump our old (by 1 year) players. It's all vanity, and who really NEEDS to see Robert Dinero's mole in high def?

So, what if I have a bunch of regular DVD's? I can't play them on Blu Ray, can I?
