Creating avatars

I was wondering where do you get your avatars from.
Do you visit any special sites, or use google, or make them yourself?

Sometimes I use photobucket for avatars, or if I want a decent resolution on a resized photo.

I usually just think of someone, go to their website and look for pictures, or already-made avatars. But its hard to get ones that look good because they are too big for 80x80 and when they get resized they look shitty. I wanted to subscribe because i'm dying to have a big picture, like Mira. I'm jealous.

usually if i see a picture i like, i just crop it and resize it in photoshop.

With mine I just did a crop/resize of a Rocky Horror Picture Show screencap.

I wish I had the Photoshop skills to create something more elaborate, but filters mystify and scare me.

Thanks for the links! I like to try to make my own pics, I often surf the net and find a photo I like and then adjust it using one of the free image editors that I have found.
