My daughter got that a couple of weeks ago. I'll ask my husband what he did to fix it when he gets up.

I got the AIM version a couple years ago. If you remember what the link said, try googling it with the phrase MSN virus. If it's a new virus, there won't be a patch/fix yet. If it's one of the older ones, there may be solutions. Usually you'll find the results in tech message boards.

The one I got was pretty advanced. It would shut down the control panel too so I couldn't even go in and see what was running to notice what was new and delete it. Plus mine was fairly new so I wound up having to wipe my computer entirely with the discs that come with the computer and just start over. Pain in the ass 7 hour process....

I hope that worked for you. I asked my husband and he removed it manually(nerd!) so that's no help. I found this though. In case you have a recurrence it may help.

Whenever that happens to my computer, I do a 'Computer Restore', so that brings the computer back to an earlier time (e.g. before the link was clicked and was working fine).

To do that: click on 'Start' button on your lower left screen, then 'All programs', then 'Accessories', then 'System Tools', then 'System Restore', then follow the instructions.

It's saved my ass, AND my computer many times.

    Good luck.

Computer restore DOES kick four kinds of ass. When I used to messenger a lot, I had mine set up where I couldn't "receive" anything from anyone. I did it when there was some msn viruses going around. I can't remember how I did it though.

I had a MSN virus once, it did something weird like I couldn't type and send or receive messages. I just did virus scan and it got rid of it.

If you think it's crazy, you ain't seen a thing. Just wait until we're goin down in flames.
