Default I think I might have sent a spam e-mail on accident. What do I do?

It's late, and I don't know who to ask. Somehow through the internet I think I sent something that leads you to buy Viagra. (I'm not sure because I got a return receipt.) Should I tell whomever got this not to open it? I don't know if it's harmful or not. Is this a big deal? I feel like I might be humiliated if a certain someone got that e-mail.

Yeah just send out a message saying you somehow did that by accident and people shouldn't open it. Also run a virus and spyware scan on your computer.

Thanks SuriCruise! I almost had a panic attack over this because I have no clue how it happened and what I even sent out at first. Ok, I just e-mailed a couple of the people whom I personally know. The original e-mail was also sent to a few random addresses. I actually feel uncomfortable e-mailing these places. I am fairly certain my own computer is fine, and I am worried if I e-mail someone I don't know about this, and something does happen to their computer, I could get in trouble for it even if it was not my fault.

DONT do a thing other than to scan your computer normally (anti virus & spyware scan). You probably didn't do anything but use your email address somewhere.

Someone has got your email address in a program & used it to try & cover their tracks. Just delete the message & ignore as unfortunately there's not much you can do about it.

Someone hacked your e-mail address and is sending these ads to everyone on your e-mail list. This happened to a friend of mine. I still get Viagra and drug spam ads from her e-mail address which is no longer in use. She has no control over it and I just delete them.

Happened to me a few months ago, the Viagra msg went to my son's teachers, coaches, my family, etc. (got a few nasty-grams back from some, like I'd really send that!!)
I deleted my Yahoo email account after I sent a notice to everyone it went out to.
...fingers crossed that worked, haven't heard anything since.

    Good Luck

Thank you all so much. I love such a love-hate relationship with the internet.

All you can do is follow the really great advice in this thread and to also just not feel ashamed or any such thing as that at all.

Anyone can make a mistake like how you did, dear.
