do it, lynnie!![]()
Bumping this thread!
Wanted to see if Quasar had met w/her surgeon and if she has any thoughts/concerns (that she cares to share) and if she thinks she will do the surgery.
I have been talking to many people close to me...having never mentioned anything remotely close to this....but ALL have been very supportive and have said to do it. Have also met some friends of friends that have had it done (and loved it) so, this is reassuring to me.
Once the new school year settles in, will be making a Consultation Appt. It's time.

After waiting for months to get the consult, I had to cancel it because my mother had just passed away not too long before the appointment. Mentally, I was in no condition to deal with the consult. I am rescheduled now but it will be another couple of months, again. I am looking forward to going though.
Thanks - it was just a week earlier that she died. I couldn't think straight about anything, much less comprehend any details the doctor would have discussed. 5 weeks later and I still am not in the right mental state to make decisions on something like this. But by my November appt -I'm sure I'll be fine.
I think you are right to wait sweetie.....be in the right state of mind. Be good to yourself and take it slow...

Hugs Quazar. I'm so sorry about your loss.

quazar,
first, i know how it feels when mom dies. you're not alone.
secondly, did that reduction!!!! everybody talks about scarring and all that -- but let me be blunt.... don't fall for it. you won't look like frankenstein and it won't look like open heart surgery. they fade over time and you can't hardly feel them or see them unless you point them out to someone and force them to notice.
when you get it done, you may or may not need drains -- don't let that freak you out, either. not all women need drains. plus, it's only to let excess fluid come out -- it's not anything bad or gross.
what will happen, like others have said is this: you go in, you lie on a table with your arms out, they'll probably use leg massagers and play music, then they'll give you the anesthesia and pronto! you will wake up in a different room with bandages on you and they'll tell you everything went great.
you'll go home, take it easy, eat well, take vitamins, take the antibiotics they give you, eat yogurt or acidophilous to help the antibiotics work better and so you won't get a yeast infection... take it easy and most importantly, don't look at your boobs.
you'll have betadine stains from the surgery and stitches, etc. they will cut an anchor -- they will cut around your areolas, down to the crease of your breasts and then in a semi-circle. they'll take out extra tissue, reposition your areolas, sew you up, and that's that.
don't obsess about the surgery. don't look at videos or listen to stories. like when a woman gets pregnant, it seems like everybody wants to share the worst story ever with you! ignore it. it's not up to you.
what is up to you is to find a board certified plastic surgeon. ask him/her how long they've been practicing in this particular area of boobage and ask how many boobs they've done. it's hard to find a "highly-recommended" plastic surgeon -- you find someone you like and who you trust enough to cut you open and do the job. aside from that, godspeed.
what i'm saying is not to get a quack or a back ally dude... just make sure he's been in business long enough to have proven himself and that he is board certified and that he has done plenty of reductions. board certified plastic surgeons come in many forms and you don't want a guy who reconstructs hands when you want your boobs done.
one thing i will recommend is to get wristbands that put pressure on the inside of your wrists -- wear these during surgery and keep them on afterwards. ask your doc if they have them or, if not, get some from the drug store or online. they put pressure on the pressure point that prevents nausea - a common after effect of anesthesia.
get plenty of painkillers, too. i wouldn't anticipate a lot of pain per se, but they can be a lot of fun while you're recovering and contemplating your new breasts.
i wouldn't buy into all the anti-scar stuff, either. all the "scar-be-gone" products are expensive and they don't do anything better than eating well and using home remedies and moisturizers.
quazar, get that reduction and don't worry about anything else. you'll be great and healthy and everything will be great!
spiffy
and lynnie, too!!!!
i tried to edit but i'm not that technologically advanced -- my apologies, ladies.

Good post spiffy! My surgeon recommended I take valerian tablets a couple of days before the op and also post-op to keep bruising to a minimum and although it's hard to say it made all the difference I certainly had minimal bruising/tenderness/pain. It's a naturapathic remedy so it can't do any harm. Vitamin E cream also helps to "settle down" any redness. Again, it can't do any harm. The scarring really wasn't a problem and it's all faded anyway. It's absolutely worth it once you can wear a normal blouse again without the buttons bursting off!

my surgeon told me to buy 100% pure cocoa butter and start using that 2-3 weeks post-op and said that was better than any of the super expensive scarring creams. i'm sure it helped a little but i think it comes down to genetics and how you scar in the first place. but either way, they fade over time and it's well worth it.

I can't wait to get this done, myself. The plan is when I'm done nursing 2.0 I'll give it a year or so of working out, losing weight, and trying to get them back down to size that way - if it's not happening I'm definitely getting a reduction!
